How do you get to the fuel pump on a 1996 Ford Escort Hatchback?

note the fuse. voltage to and from stop lamp switch.

have you put the fuel pump in right sounds like the fuel is not getting to the pump. did you change the filter on the bottom of the pump. could also be a bad wire to the pump and movement is knocking out the power to the pump. also when you changed the pump did you take out the relay for the pump? before changing the pump.

Ford vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump cut off switch that will shut power to the fuel pump in the event of a collision. By hitting the pothole, there was probably enough "force" making the switch mistakenly shut off the fuel pump. The switch should be located in the trunk either on the left or right side. Locate the switch and press the reset button. If it clicks when pressed, then the switch was activated. Try starting the car. If it starts, then that was the problem. I own a 1997 Ford Escort and the same thing happened to me...the pothole caused enough "force" thereby the switch took it as an impact. I hope this helps you out.

to the left. It is mounted to the left side of your interior.
Open your door, get on your hands and knee's, and
look straight it may be a little up depending on how it
is mounted.

The "inertia switch" which shuts off fuel to the engine in the event of a collision or jolt on a 1991 through 1996 models, as well as on 1998 coupes, is located in the rear of the vehicle, near the right (passenger's side) strut tower. On sedan and coupe models, open the trunk and remove the right-sided trim panel. On sedan and coupe models, open the trunk and remove the right-side trim panel. On hatchback and wagon models, there may be an access door secured by clips. On some models you may need to remove the lower quarter trim panel on the right side, however it is easier to cut an access hole directly above the switch.

All manufacturers put the tire size and air pressure requirements on a label attached either to the driver door post, or the end of the door. If u can't find it, let me know.

The fuel pump is in the gas tank, you can access it by removing the rear seat cushion, there is a fuel tank access plate uinder the seat cushion.

if the fusebox is above accelerator pedal its relay number 1 .best of luck.
