Noticed a small leak- not sure if oil or power steering fluid (light brown). Couldn't find source of the leak but appears to be somewhere in between the PS pump and timing belt on passenger side. 2006 Tacoma-

Is the rear parking brake mechanism rebuilable I have fluid leaking at at the retention bolt

Fluid Leaking from Car: My automobile has a clear liquid leak.
It's probably just water if your car is leaking a clear, water-like liquid. A transparent liquid could also be used as a coolant, albeit unlike water, it will most likely have a coloured tinge (green, blue, or yellow) and an odor. For additional information about leaking coolant, see the sections below.
Fluid Leaking from Car: What to Do If Your Car Is Leaking Water
It's doubtful that you'll need to take any action. The most common source of leaking water is condensation from the air conditioner - which is quite common in the summer - or exhaust, which is more common in the winter.
Another common reason is your windscreen washers, but this is unlikely to be a severe problem that you should disregard.
If you can't figure out what's causing the problem or there's more than a little water coming from your vehicle, double-check that the clear fluid is truly water and that there isn't something more severe going on.
Fluid Leaking from Car: My automobile is leaking an amber-colored liquid.
You're definitely leaking fuel or diesel if you observe a brownish puddle under your car that looks multicolored when the light hits it just right.
Both petrol and diesel have strong, distinct aromas. If you detect a stench that reminds you of a gas station, you've successfully recognized your mystery puddle.
These spills are most common around forecourts due to negligent pumping, but if they appear after you've parked somewhere else, don't overlook them.
What to Do If Your Car Is Leaking Fuel
If you can, avoid driving because gasoline is highly flammable and a spark in the wrong spot might cause it to catch fire. It's possible that your fuel economy is suffering as well!
The most common cause of fuel leaks is a crack or hole in the fuel tank. Any decent technician will be able to patch this up without having to replace the whole thing as long as the gasoline tank isn't rotting away due to age.
My automobile has a crimson fluid leak.
The scariest color of any liquid to find leaking from under your car is red, and it usually indicates that you have a transmission fluid leak.
If there's red fluid pouring in the middle or front of your vehicle, it's transmission fluid, and it's not only bad for your driveway (it can stain), but it can also be dangerous for your car.
What to do if your car's gearbox fluid leaks
To begin, don't drive if you suspect a transmission fluid leak because your car may not run correctly, putting you and others at risk, and using it could cause more harm.
These leaks can be caused by a variety of factors, including damaged seals and fractured fluid lines, as well as failing gaskets and ordinary wear and tear, and the problem should be addressed as soon as feasible.
You can check the fluid levels using the dipstick (see your owner's manual for further information), but you'll almost certainly need to have your car towed to a garage where an expert can examine it.
My automobile has a brown/black fluid leak.
A puddle of amber, brown, or black liquid under your car is most likely engine oil, but approach near enough to touch it to be sure. It's almost likely oil if it feels slippery and is difficult to remove from your fingertips.
What to Do If Your Car Is Leaking Oil
First, try to find the source of the leak. Once you're under the hood, it should be quite straightforward to identify, and if the leak is caused by something like a valve cover gasket, you might be able to replace it yourself.
If you choose to fix it or drive with a little oil leak, make sure your oil tank is always filled to the correct level. Failure to do so could result in long-term (and costly) engine damage.
If you can't fix the leak yourself or it's more than a few drops, take it to a local garage and get it looked at by a mechanic. This will assist prevent any long-term harm to your vehicle from the leak.
My automobile is leaking a reddish-brown liquid.
Power steering fluid could be seeping from a reddish-brown liquid near the power steering reservoir. This will smell slightly sweet and burned, unlike engine oil or transmission fluid.
A leak may indicate an issue with the hoses and tubing that transport fluid from the pump to the steering rack, such as a loose connection or a crack.

Oil leak on back driver side motor in a 1994 dodge caravan

Place a piece of white paper/cardboard on the ground below where the leak is coming from soon after the engine is turned off. This should help you locate where exactly the oil is dripping from, and should help identify what is leaking. If the oil is black/brown/gold, it's probably engine oil. If it's reddish/brown, it's probably transmission fluid. If it's clear, it may be brake fluid or power steering fluid (from the rack/pinion). Check the fluid levels for whatever you determine it may be. If it's engine oil, you may have leaking valve cover gaskets or a leaking rear seal on the engine. If it's transmission fluid, you may have bad transmission cooler lines or leaking from axle seals. Check the master cylinder and brake lines if it's brake fluid, and check the rack/pinion if it's power steering fluid.

I have a small oil leak but when I check the dip stick doesn't seem to be going down is there a separate oil like maybe the tranny

Most of the fluids in a vehicle are oil based. Transmission, brakes, engine, clutch, power steering are all oil based. You need to use a white cloth to check and see what color it is. Red is transmission, brown is engine, brake fluid is clear.

Fluid leaking possibly from transmission

Several places the transmission can leak, pan gasket is most common place with cooler line fittings being next most common.Clean all the fluid off with a can of brake clean you can buy at a parts store.Make sure engine is off first and that the transmission has been topped off so as better to produce a leak. After it is clean crank and let idle on level ground for 30 minutes then shut it off and get a flash light and see if you have a leak and follow it to the source(fluid runs downhill like water)If you have no leak let it set overnight and check in the morning.Good luck!

I have a 1987 Vette that has never dripped anything onto the driveway, until last night. It is really leaking good all of a sudden. Where should I look first.

First you need to identify what's leaking? What color is fluid? Green, Red, Brown? and where under car is fluid leaking from center, front rt, etc... Another option is check ALL fluid levels - coolant, oil, power steering, transmission.

Slow reddish brown oil leaking form bottom. Power steering reservoir very low on fluid.

Looks like you have identified the source of the oil.
Have a look at all the pipe couplings and and see where leak is coming from. (you may need a mirror).
Dont let the oil get to low or you may damage power steering pump.
If unsure take car to mechanic who can fix it.

You can get a special oil called leak stop but only use this at last resort.

If the hose is split, replace the faulty hose and refill the power steering fluid. (When the engine starts up, the power steering pump pressurises the system which is why the leakage occurred after you started the engine).

I noticed my power steering fluid was way below the low mark so refilled it. I noticed a month later a small noise coming from my steering wheel, checked the fluid level again and it was low again. What...

Check the high pressure line from the pump to the steering gear (rack) if the hose is good, check the rubber bellows at each end of the rack, if they are leaking oil, the rack will need to be replaced. If you dont have much money, the rack could be put off, but be sure to keep the fluid level full, you dont want to run it dry and ruin the pump. The hose isnt real big bucks, but the rack will be, plus an alignment.

Power steering fluid leaking;

Fill it up. Have a helper hold the steering wheel to all the way to the stop while you check for leaks. Especially the high pressure hose.
