Just bought a 1996 Firan Raven motorhome on a ford F53 chassis w/ 460 fuel injected.Only has 43k miles. Drove it 350 miles and ran fine. On return trip home it started losing power and missing and backfiring. Thought i got some bad fuel or water in fuel. Would run ok for a while and then only go 15-20 mph w/ no power. If it dies, it starts right back up. Limped it home. Replaced fuel filter. No change. Ran out all fuel after adding HEET and 91% Isopropyl alcohol. Idles fine. Put in new gas and same problem. Changed fuel filter again and still loses power after a few minutes of driving and dies but starts right back up. Had ingnition control module checked at AutoZone and tested OK. Any suggestions?
Bad cat o2 sensors or maybe weak fuel pump or kinked gas line. My motor home (with a 460) lost power comming out of a toll booth. Couldnt get it over 40 mph. Changed the fuel pump...runs great. After the loss of power it eventually would not start, pump was totaled. Changed it myself.(very big tank) pump was about $200. good luck
It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.
