this happens even on dry pavement and sometimes it seems like there is no power when you press the gas pedal.

It does that to tell you that your traction control senses slip on one of the wheels and is transferring some of the spin to the other wheel(s). What it basically means is that driving conditions are not optimal so if you see that message, be ready for some sort of weirdness while steering.

Possibly corroded or dirty front wheel sensors.

What caused the tracking control light to turn on?

If the system fails to turn on or activate, the StabiliTrak®

light along with one of the following messages will be

displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC):

TRACTION CONTROL OFF, SERVICE TRACTION

CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITRAK. If you see these

conditions, turn the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds, and then

turn it back on again to reset the system. If any of these

messages still appear on the Driver Information Center
(DIC), your vehicle should be taken in for service.

My 2003 impalas traction control wont shut off tried a new switch it has new hubs on it any ideas

Before replacing parts there is a specific way to start diagnostics an a professional grade scan tool is a must ! a code reader can not access the body control module , or the EBCM - electronic brake control module or instrument cluster ! All these modules communicate on the class 2 serial data bus.
Begin the system diagnosis with Diagnostic System Check - ABS . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information:
?€¢
The identification of the control modules which command the system

?€¢
The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit

?€¢
The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
The traction control switch is a input to the body control module, with a scan tool hooked up an looking at BCM data ,check for conformation the traction control switch is turning on an off !
SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM The IPC illuminates the SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM indicator in the message center when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM indicator illuminates for 60 seconds when the condition is present. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
TRAC OFF The IPC illuminates the TRAC OFF indicator when the following occurs:
?€¢
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) inhibits the traction control system due to a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.

?€¢
The body control module (BCM) detects that the traction control switch has been pressed (signal circuit is low). The BCM sends a class 2 message to the EBCM in order to disable traction control. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.

Tahoe Problems

Do you mean 'traction control active'? There is no 'transaction'. Traction control is what keeps your wheels from spinning freely, like in mud, and instead activates 'traction' for your tires, helps them find 'traction' rather than going crazy!

ABS-traction control check and service

I'll start with the code reader. Most simple readers will only read engine codes. You need a professional scan tool that does everything to access the body computer data.
It could be a wheel sensor which the ABS system uses, or one of the other components in the ABS system.

MESSAGE CENTRE TC

TC = Traction Active

If your vehicle is equipped with the Traction Control system, this message will stay on a few seconds after the traction system stops limiting wheel spin.

This message will appear when the traction control system is limiting wheel spin. Keep in mind that when the warning lights turn on, a fault code is stored in the ABS control module (in this case). Retrieving, diagnosing, and repairing any ABS system faults will be necessary to keep the light off. A common fault with ABS systems are the wheel speed sensors, stored codes may confirm this.

Hope this helps.

In the message board the traction active message appears

This will appear if the tires slip or spin faster than another, but should go off after the slip is done, if the light stays on then have the traction control system checked.

Message center says "TRACTION ACTIVE"

it sounds like a wheel speed sensor to me. I am not sure if you need to replace the entire wheel bearing or not on these, but if you do, you may as well change both sides at once. I would try to look at the connection between the harness and the sensor to be sure it isn't loose or corroded, which will cause problems as well.
