I have a 2009 chevy aveo. When it is parked and shut off, it will start ticking. It feels like it is comming from the shifter. It runs the battery down. Do you know what that is?

PARK LOCK OUT (SHIFTER STUCK)
IS BRAKE LAMPS DEAD (1 TOP CAUSED AND BRAKE FUSES BLOW)
CHECK ALL FUSES FIRST. LACKING SERVICE MANUAL
EVEN BAD SHIFTER LEVER PARTS. AND MORE.
SCAN THE PCM FOR ERRORS YET. SAME $$$$$ GUESSING?

Yes anti-theft system and immobilizer lockout. Number one tip, always keep voltage to the ECM using wires or jump leads to the starter motor or the battery leads..

May be not in park at all . Shifter may be in reverse or drive and not letting engine crank over . Linkage may be broken or out of adjustment . Can you try shifter in neutral and see if it will crank ?

You have a problem with the shifter. Common on the Aveo's. There's a switch on the shifter that wears out. When put in 'Park' it releases the ignition to remove the key. When that switch screws up it's not releasing the ignition. Replace the shifter. I'm a Chevy mechanic.

There is a solenoid under the cover where the shifter is. You need to replace it. You can get the part from a dealer and will take 30 mins to fix. In the meantime wiggle the shifter around while turning the key and it should work like that until you get the part.

sounds like brake switch for shifter lock isnt working. UNDER BRAKE PEDAL there should be a cable that leads to the shifter in the mess of wires. make sure its fully connected. If not then unplug and reconnect that should fix if not then issue is at shifter end

if its a 5 speed, yes the shifting is loser than normal cars. the reverse is all jacked up.. if its anything like my 06 aveo when you shift into reverse you have to lift the little circle thing on your shifter up ad act like your putting it into first.. If it grinds try doing it slower. I HATE this transmission. Chevy did a horrible job on picking it. I always grind reverse no matter what
