1995 Ford Escort LX Wagon 1.9 Liter. 173K miles After initial 1/2 mile drive to warm up, I accelerate from a stop and get a vibration that feels like a pounding jack hammer. It's so bad, the view from my rear view mirror is unviewable because the mirror is vibrating so violently. Once I reach a speed I want to maintain (say 40 mph), I let off the gas and the vibration goes completely away. When it's cool in the mornings, the vibration doesn't exist until the car's warmed up. I changed the CV joints, had the tranny serviced, changed plugs and plug wires, rotated tires. None of these fixed the problem. What else could it be?
Is the engine running on all four cylinders, no missfire? If so, check the engine and transmission mounts, there are four, one at the top right hand side, one at the top of transmission on the left hand side, and one on front of transmission bell housing, and one in the rear transmission bell housing, any of them that are bad can cause this vibration. Hope this helps, let me know.
