2005 Z71 Tahoe - When turning left only there is a squeal like sheet metal rubbing something. Pulled axles and replaced brake backing plates (rusted out) and all rear brakes. Had to replace the driver side emergency brake due to being damaged when rotor was removed. Had rotors turned and still have the noise. Doesn't sound like a grinding bearing noise.

Did you check the front shields also. Had a lady going into a tizzy one time with pretty much the same problem. Squealing when turning only one way. I took it for a quick drive and pulled it into the shop. Took off the front wheel where I thought the offending sound was coming from.

Well there's your problem lady. A small rock between the rotor and dust shield. Cost to customer. $0.

Hope this helps.

If it isn't the brake pad worn out, then it is the brake backing/dust guard sheet metal shield ( AKA backing plate), take a suitable device like a large screwdriver and bend the backing plate away from the rotor. Problem solved.

Most chevy 5.3 do not use a cap and rotor. Most have single coil per spark plug and wire. Trace spark plug wires to coil usually above the valve cover.

Not hard to Replace. you will have to take the Caliper off of the Rotor and then Take the Rotor off, Repack the Bearings! And it is Right There!

My 99 accord ex is still making a squeaking noise when turning right sounds like metal hitting metal just replaced axle on that side passenger.

Have you inspected the brakes for wear? Possible backing plate rubbing on rotor. Possible wheel bearing on that side. Was the axle nut torqued to spec? This nut keeps proper pressure on the wheel bearing.

Front wheel noise

The first thing I would do is inspect the brakes. The brake pads have a metal indicator that will start to rub when the pads get low. It will make a really annoying high pitch squeal. It could also be a condition known as metallic squeal. This would be a metallic particle in the brake pad that is causing the noise. Replacing the pads is a guaranteed fix for this. It could also be a backing plate rubbing or any number of things. Checking the brakes would be a good first step. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. I have a 2005 1500 Z71 4x4 and I can't get the passanger rear brake drum off...Is there something special about getting the drum to come off? It started leaking fluid this morning and thus I have no...

the fluid is brake fluid frond the wheel cylinder...the reason why u cant get the drum off is either a rust lip on the drum or the rear brake shoes have ground into the brake drum...u need to adjust the self adjusting star wheel inward to loosen the rear shoes allowing the drum to be removed...on the back side of the drum is what is called a backing plate there will be a oval hole with a rubber plug in it remove it an use a brake spoon to de adjust the rear shoes by turning the brake spoon up ..if u dont have the oval hole u will need to cut it out of the backing plate there may be 2 oval stamps in the backing plate, cut out the one that is on the right when u r looking at the backing plate

I have a 2003 z71 subaran and the rear end went out.would a 2005 tahoe rear end work in a 2003

You need to check 2 measurements. The overall width of both rear ends, backing plate to backing plate. You also need the width between the spring mounting plates on both rear ends. If these measurements are the same you shouldn't have any problems. If they are not the same, keep looking. If the overall length is shorter, your tires will rub on the body. If it's longer, your tires will stick out and rub on the fender.
The mounting plates can be moved, if the measurement is different, but that involves cutting and welding and it would likely be cheaper to get a different rear end. Braking systems should be an easy swap if it is necessary but they should be the same. Hope this helps.

I have a 2002 gmc sierra 2 wheel drive and when I take off initially and when I turn left I hear a grinding/grumling noise.

Loose or damaged Wheel-Bearing causing other parts to rub together, like the brake components or your wheels are too big or shocks weak, or exhaust hanging and are rubbing against something.
Perhaps oil is leaking from your rear axle housing dut to bad seals (check inner of wheels) and around axle housing - remove plug and check that your finger can reach in and touch it. Could be a sign of rear end failure or simply the backing plates on the brakes behind the rotors and the drums (steel disk) sometimes rust on the drums can grind against the backing plates if they are weak or warped (clean this area).

Car is squealing persistently from rear right tire

Pull the wheel, you will find that the brake pad,or after pulling the drum, the shoes are in bad shpe,if not ,check the wheel bearing, but my bet is the shoes,or pads are bad,do A brake job,it will most likely be the problem.

My 2004 chevy tahoe makes a squeaking noise while driving and now there's brake dust forming on the rims.

If the squeeking is happening over bumps, and is not related to breaking, it could be a bearing in the steering linkage. My tahoe is doing the same thing, and my local garage says it is only a dealer fix. That is why I am searching this site now, is to find out if anyone else is complaining about this. I was told that GM is fully aware of this problem.
