The A/C compressor only works when the engine is running.jiggle the wire on the compressor to make sure it's not loose or broken. The compressor clutch has to engaged for it to pump. There's about a 30 amp A/C fuse in your fuse box (under hood). Check it, if there's no power to the compressor.
Sure. If one of the ac lines is hot and the other is cold, the blend door could be faulty and not letting air blow thru the evaporator core. The compressor is running and the gauge readings are normal, right ?
Probably, to be sure make sure the compressor is coming on. With the engine running turn on the ac and watch the rpms, they should drop for a second if the compressor is coming on. If so you just need to recharge, the refrigerant is R-134a, which you can get from your local parts store along with the kit needed to charge it. The kit will come with detailed instructions and is a pretty easy job.
If you still get cold air out of the rear vents but the front only blows hot air you may have a bad temp door actuator in the dash, it may be stuck on hot and not able to move to cold air. However if you are low on freon with a truck that has front and rear ac then there will be a temp diff between the two. If it is hot air out the front like the heat is on then you have that actuator problem but if it is cool air about the same as the outside air temp then you may be low on freon.
Is the air actually blowing into the car?But it's just hot?It sounds like your blower motor is not turning to blow air.you have a fuse, check the switch that controls the blower, and the blower motor it self.
You would have to measure the pressure to determine if it's pressurized correctly. The compressor won't run if it's low. What happens when you push the a/c button? Can you hear/feel the compressor kick in? It seems like in most cases it's the compressor itself or the compressor clutch that goes. It's way too common in vw's...
First you need to make sure your testing you ac when the car is on. If its still blowing hot air make sure you have the ac setting set and not the fan setting. If thats not the problem make sure the compressor in the ac is running it give off this distinct humming sound when the ac is turned on, you might need to put your ear next to it if you can find it. If the compressor isn't working check the wiring in the car, and make sure the fuse/chip for the compressor are fine.
If your compressor is working the low side should be 15-38 psi. If you have 100 psi that means the compressor is not doing what it should. Make sure the outer clutch is engaged with the pully. If not A/C system check should be done.
