Cruse controe stop working

Hi Kelly:
If your brake switch was the problem, your brake lights would be comming on without pushing the pedal. The most common problem to cause cruise control failure is the clockspring which is a winding that contains wires that go from the cruise control switch to the PCM (computer).
You could also check the fuses. If fuse is ok there is not much more you can do unless your good with a voltmeter and can read a wiring diagram. Then you can check the power and grounds at the PCM and switch.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Where is the fuse for the cruse control on a 2003 pt cruiser

There's no individual fuse for the cruise control. If its stopped working it may be a cruise control switch or a brake light switch fault. If you have a manual gearbox, its probably a clutch pedal switch issue. Hope this helps...

Cruise controll

I guess the cruse is'nt working? You first need to look it over to see if everythings hooked up. Did it work for you before or you haven't seen it work? The switch on the dash will light after turning it on but the car has to be running for it to turn on . Does the light light? if not check the fuses and see if thier any blown? To check to see that everything is hooked up find the throttle body, one cablr goes to the gas pedal and the other goes to the cruse, follow this cable to the cruse unit and see if that unit has all it's wires and hoses connected. To check you remove them and reconnect them looking into the plug or hose for dirt rust bent pins. The hoses can crack on the inside and leak which will make it not engage. Follow these hoses to where thier connected to the engine and the brake pedal as they can split and be disconnected there too. The brake pedal switch has to work too as does the clutch switch ( if it has a clutch) If the brake lights don't work niether will the cruse. The hi mount brake light if the bulbs fail the cruse won't work. The switch on the steering wheel can get disconnected too as it's on a clockspring circuit as the steering wheel has to turn. Is the airbag light on? if it is and the horn does'nt work either it's likly that the clockspring is broken, If the horn works and the airbag light cycles like it's suposed to then the clockspring is likly OK. The speedometer has to work too as the speed senser that works it also works the cruse.If everything is working your problem could be more seriuos but it's not likly as this unit is quite reliable.

Brake lightswill not work aven after changing Bulbs. What could be the problem?

Need to check the brake light switch. ok down by the brake pedal there is a switch that tells the lights to turn on when you push it. almost always easy to fix and you can buy a switch aftermarket for around $10 bucks. If you have cruse control a good way to check the switch is to run the cruse con and try to get it to stop crusing by pushing the brake pedal if it keeps going thats your problem. hope this helps

Auto has 23K and cruse stopped working. checked

I had the same problem with my 2003 santa fe. Do you have any brake lights out in back? Weird as it is, as soon as I fixed a burned out brake bulb, my cruise worked again. The only relation I can think of is that tapping the breaks causes cruise to turn off - so maybe a broken brake/tail light passes a singal to cruise control from some reason???

98 chevy k1500 cruse control

Hi,

Appreciate the "Ask Me".

To my knowledge, Cruise Control would be relatively difficult to diagnose without a scan tool attached to the control module to read the error codes. Additionally, car versions in my country seldom have such a device since our roads are narrower and travel distance is not that great.

Though most known causes are:
  • the connector to the module;
  • loose brake pedal/switch;
  • loose clutch pedal/switch (for manual transmission);
  • vacuum line to actuator (most likely), vacuum actuator, diaphragm, control valve.
Other possible components to check are:
  • the control module itself (bolted to the firewall);
  • control cable or linkage;
  • speedometer sensor;
  • steering wheel controls switches;
  • throttle position sensor.
As posted above, quite a number of possibilities. Any other indications, speedometer OK; abnormal throttle responses; abnormal idling, brake light always ON, slack in the accelerator/gas pedal? Was it cutting in/out before? Was there any recent repair work done on the engine before the cruise control cut out?

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
