When engine is idling the oil pressure sign can come up and that is OK. However if you've noticed that gauge shows much lower oil pressure that a bad sign. Show it to knowledgeable mechanic (but don't be lured in the engine replacement; ask for a root cause - it may be oil receiver or oil pump). Also I hope there's no oil puddles under the car? What about oil level?
It could be a blocked oil filter, idle rpm's too low , incorrect viscosity of oil and failing oil pump. It may be also a faulty oil sender unit . What ever it is have a oil pressure check using a mechanical gauge first
Check and make sure your engine has the recommend amount. When you stop your vehicle the engine is at idle and has a lower oil pressure then when your car is driving. A oil light is a pressure gauge, when the light is on when stopped is the first sign of an oil leak, most likely the oil pan gasket.
Find put where the hissing noise is coming from, you have a vacuum leak. Fix that , and everything else will be fixed. After you fix it, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the computer and fuel trims.
Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.
sounds like you may have a problem with your Idle air control valve, located on the throttle body. this is what controls the idle when coming to a stop or stopped and turning corners or basically when your foot is not on the gas pedal
have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with 84,000 miles. started having issues with oil pressure gauge going crazy up and down, beeping. had oil pump replaced per mechanics recommendation. didn't help won't hold pressure---only registers about 2. now they tell me i need a new motor!!! just bought vehicle less than 1 yr ago...had carfax clean report!!!!any suggestions?
Here is how I fixed the low oil pressure light problem without using any parts, only the labor to remove the oil pressure sensor is needed. I have an 02 seabring convertible 2.7L engine and I was having the same problem with my oil light coming on at an idle. I bought a new sensor replaced the old one and had the same problem. I than got a test kit and tested my oil pressure. It was very good, never lower than 11 PSI hot at an idle. I was reading about the wire connector modification, but I had an 02 and this mod came out in 98, surely Chrysler incorporated this mod on its newer vehicles. Well after checking more they did not and this is what turned me off on Chrysler products forever. For a manufacturer to produce a vehicle with a known defect and a modification fix and not incorporated this modification on its newer vehicles is inexcusable.
After reading that the modification was to stop pressure build up in the sensor housing I decided to make a pressure release hole in the sensor housing. I took my old oil pressure sensor and using a 1/8 inch bit I drilled a small hole at the base of the plastic sensor tower. I put the old sensor in and drove for a week, no problem with my light coming on. To test further I took the new oil pressure sensor I bought and drilled a hole in it. Put it in and I've been driving for months and no problem with my oil pressure light coming on now.
