Door ajar light stays on when all the doors appear closed. This delayes the automatic locks from egaging when put in drive, but the locks do lock a short time later. What can cause this?

the door light switch, little black thing that sticks out on the door hinge side, this may need replacing. some times they have a rubber on them, its a switch.
Most likely, the auto-locks aren't working because it thinks one or more doors are open. The door ajar switch is located inside the rear door face along with the latch. They can tend to get dirty and sticky over time. Using your favorite petroleum based lubricating spray, shoot it directly into the door latch area, being very liberal. Open and close your doors several times to make sure the switch is working freely. You should do this one door at a time so you can diagnose which door is causing the issue in case it resurfaces. Should be good to go.
sound like your fluid sensor may be stuck or bad if light stays on try tapping the washer motor on the resevoir if it goes out faulty sensor as for the door ajar light it might have bad connection with sensor saying the door is closed local dealer should be able to troubleshoot sensor
there is a switch in each door that senses the door is open, it is called the door ajar/courtesy light switch (imagine that), they stick and have this problem, replace it.
there should be a switch mounted( or more than one) in the door jamb that tells the car when the car door is open...i will probably look like a little plastic plunger...might be broken off or bad internally
Hello and welcome to FIXYA, it sounds like you have two problems, first the door ajar switches in your truck are sticking, and causing the ajar light to remain on, and second the door lock actuator is shorted and getting stuck in the lock position. To repair the switches, obtain a can of brake cleaner and spray the door latch of each door for about 3 to 5 seconds, then open and close the door 10 times to work the cleaner into the switches. To fix the lock problem, you must first pull up on the knob in the door panel to unlock it. Then remove the door panel, and replace the door lock actuator.
I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.
If it has automatic or a domelight that stays on for a while after you shut the door is on a timer relay and that is probably getting bad. As far as the door ajar message there is a switch in the door jam, look and see if you see it. Take wd40 and try to soak the switch try to get it inside the switch.If its incorporated in the door latch spray back inside the door latch real good. Open and close the door several times and see if it works then.
