2001 jimmy starts and runs fine drive around and then shut off try to restart a few minutes later and no luck-- engine turns over tries to fire but no luck -- leave for a while and starts- can hear fuel pump running- doesnt happen all the time just occasionally --enough that i am about to get rid of it- have replaced much in last 3 months- plugs, wires, coil, fuel filter am lost as to why this happening --no codes being thrown by computer
Do you have the 4.3L engine with spider fuel system? That system is noted for problems. Key on engine off, fuel pressure, 60--66 psi, use a fuel pressure gage. It needs that pressure to start, after it starts, it will run with less pressure.
There could be other issues? Engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse?

did you do a fuel pressure test? if you havent do it its cheep an at least you can elimanate that. if thats not an issue, then there is only two other things crank sensor, and if there is one cam sensor.

you might want to check that you gapped the plugs properly dont just go bye the parts store telling you that the plugs are pregapped cause thats ******** there never right and it could also make you,re vehicle sparkknock really bad if there not gapped right could be you,re problem but just a little friendly advice

i think if you checked the sparking plugs and map sensors then check your distributer its maybe not delivering the current nedded to perform the spark to some of the cylinders

even though parts are new they also come with defects so it sounds as if when you turn the key you hear it working and other times not at all hmmm connections are tight ? could be faulty fuel pump or relay .

SCAN IT SOUND LIKE IDLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM.BUT I AM LOOKING AT VACUUM LEAK AT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BROKE VACUUM HOSE. OR FUEL INJECTORS SEALS LEAKING.
