You will have to go to the dealer to get the code. While you are at it get the instructions for putting the code in and don't lose them. Everytime you unhook the battery you will have to put the code back in. Hope this helps.

They would probably charge you to put the code in. They do need the VIN number to get the code. The code is put in at the factory and cannot be changed. I don't know if the procedure to input the code is the same for your 2006 as it is for my 1992, that's why you would have to ask. If it's the same procedure, just post back and I can give it to you. Hope this helps.
My 2006 VW Jetta has been on SAFE 2 mode for a month. The dealership will help if you choose to pay them for their time to do the work of pulling the car stereo out to find the code on a sticker that is located on the back of the unit. The code is assigned to your vehicle and connected to your VIN number, there is no universal code. You can pull the unit out yourself (locate screws, unscrew and pull) and retrieve the code, then call the dealership with the corresponding number and they provide the code for free. It takes a 5 min conversation, service staff are hard to get a hold of, but happy to help.
