Hi from uk the cambelt/timing belt comes as a kit ie timing belt and tensioner cost £50 here in uk ? it is not too difficult diy job approx 2hours the engine must 1st be set to TDC number 1 firing then at this setting the cam cog mark is a hole drilling in the web of cog and should line up at 12 oclock upwards and using a mirror look thro drill hole and you will see a vertical notch/groove behind on font engineface this is correct mark the crank cog mark lines up with aother mark on engine front face at approx 12 30 pm oclock ? if now set you slacken tensioner bolts and push t/pully away to left from belt ? then remove belt next remove complete tensioner assy after undoing bolts then fit new tensioner push t/pully to left from belt run and lock bolt/s recheck t/marks then fit new belt from c/shaft in anticlockwise rotation when fitted release tensioner bolt and allow to tension belt push t/pully onto belt and lock up tensioner bolts20=27 Nm rotate engine manually for four turns then recheck marks ? should still aligne then re assemble torque crank bolt to =140-150 Nm A LITTLE HINT ? b4 you remove the water pump belt ? slacken thefour 10 mm headed bolts (spanner size) that secure w/pump pully to pump it will be easier to halt rotation of pully if you holt belt tight by hand this pully has to come off to remove c/belt covers same for power steer belt which is also driven from the w/pump pully the power steer pump slide adjuster has a 12 mm bolt you slacken and best done with open end spanner ? after slackening the pump mounting bolts/nuts underneath pump hope you can follow this info/tips wish you good luck from uk

Timing belt broke on hyundai accent how do i replace it and the timing marks

1st you may want make sure that's not an interference engine. if it is then chances are the valves are bend in the head. changing the timing belt probably won't help then. If its not an interference head, then you would need a timing mark diagram which can be found online. be very careful that all marks are aligned. when finshed installing the timing belt, rotate engine by hand twice and re-align marks before putting the rest back together! hyundai should be able to tell u if the engine runs interference or not.

I have a 2000 hyundi accent

Hi

Sounds like the timming belt is loose and or a pully is bad. However it could simply be a worn alternator or power steering belt.

Timing belt snapped

hi from uk the cambelt timing marks for accent 1.3/1.5 petrol are as follows= the cam cog has a hole drilling between the outer toothed and the central securing bolt this hole at TDC number 1 cyl is at top central and lines up with a V cut in the cyl head at rear of cog ? the crank cog at TDC number 1 cyl is a pop mark on both the cog and on thefront face of engine quite noticable ! these line up and are at approx 12 -30 pm when viewed fit new belt from crankcog in anticlockwise ie crank then cam then tensioner HOWEVER! if you are considering just replacing belt and tensioner ? be warned this engine is an interferance engine that is to say if belt fails whilst driving there may/will most probably be damage to the valves (bent) due to contact with pistons so would advise caution and suggest compression test all cyls after fitting new belt and tensioner and before rebuild completely once valves have bent they will not contact pistons again but you will have serious missfire/s and probably back fire up inlet manifold coupled with failing to start if engine is high milage ? consider removal of cyl head and check? de coke and replace damaged or best all valves then engine will have improved performance and more milesin future hope this helps

Need to know how to check the timing for 1997 Hyundai Accent Gt!

Not sure why he would tell you the engine has to be taken out to set the timing. If he means the timing belt is wore out and needs to be changed, you can change the belt without pulling the engine. The engine cant be timed. It is set automatically.
