Milage between cambelts? - C70 Volvo Cars & Trucks

I believe that the book says every 60,000 miles, it should also be changed every 3 years despite milage acording to haynes manuel. Personally I would condsider cchanging at 55,000 to be on safe side as it it breaks can cause major engine damage. Hope this helps

I would wait for the milage recommendation. (Unless of course you have an oil or coolant leak that is getting on your timing belt) When you do replace it though, have the tensioner and idler pulleys replaced also. The whole deal can be had as a kit.

When you view one check recent service history
Also try to buy one that has had a recent mot,this will ensure steering,suspension ,tyres etc are in good condition

the more air the less your tire touch the ground and as a result your going to get better gas milage.

the spanner symbol is indicating your engine/car is due for service/maintainance which if your vehicle is high milage ?/ it may also require the cambelt renewal and the tensioner may i suggest you do not ignor this warning light i am sure you have heard horror stories of the consequences of engines cambelt breaking ?? hope this helps and you heed advice given ?

hi from uk from the symptom/location you say water leak is coming from ? this is most likely to be the water pump that is leaking ? considering age/milage ? this is not uncommon however as the water pump is driven by cambelt this unfortunately means you will have to replace the cambelt and tensioner as well as the water pump it is policy never to use old belt/tensioner once disturbed for obvious reasons i'm sure you have heard stories of result of cambelt failure? and the serious damage caused to engine ? also if leak is serious? this will deteriate c/belt so advice you consider renewal asap cambeltkit +tensioner in uk casts approx under £45 and w/pump a little less you can obtain from most good motor factors/superstores avoid dealers this job is not too difficult diy with haynes or w/shop manual if you follow instructions and have tool kit hope this helps?

hi from uk the elantra engine is an interferance engine that means that should the cambelt fail whilst engine running there is most likely the valves will come into contact with pistons result will be bent valves whichmeans cyl head off and new valves/head gasket/ timing belt and tensioner consider this ? if your engine has high milage but ran ok prior to this failure ? it will be worth repairs as above however best to remove cyl head and inspect damage 1st ? if only damage to valves usually 3 or 4 renew them all and reseat new h/gasket etc you will get good result so all depends on investigation of damage ?

sorry to tell you this but the final gunning of the engine your mate did sounds like the cambelt has gone ! to check try turning engine using spanner/socket on the crank pully if it turns backwards but not forward ? this indicates the pistons are hitting valves this can/will be expensive damage considering what happened prior to sudden failure and it is more than likely that the belt squeal you heard was in all probability the cambeltand tensioner failing ? you will need to remove cyl/head to investigate damage ? consider milage of engine? b4 you decide repairing and it may well be a better option to fit a recon or 2nd hand lower milage from breakers ? hope this helps? please come back with update or if you req info/help
