To answer you more direct question about the Serpentine Belt driving the Alternator: It depends on what size engine you have. Also: if you only have 1-Belt: then yes it drives the Alternator. However if you have more than 1-Belt, then look at the Diagrams Provided (on the direct link) to compare which Belt drives the Alternator.

i'm sorry this is my brothers car. i got mixed iformation. he was changing the timing belt the spring for the belt tensioner came out and he doesnt know which way it goes back in. could anyone help thank you
