Electronic Speedometer stopped registering and Odometer went blank on 1995 Fleetwood Coronado Motor Home, with 1994 Ford F550 Super Duty Chassis and 460 cid engine. Supposed reputable MH Dealer (though not Fleetwood authorized) spent an hour and was unable to diagnosis problem.
Maybe unrelated, several months prior, the cruise control started working intermittantly (on some days, off other days) and this remains true. Their is an active recall on a defective cruise control switch for this model which could cause a fire. There is no mention in recall about it affecting working cruise control function.
I plan to try a Ford ''Heavy Truck'' Dealer to replace the switch, diagnois and fix the rest. I don't want to be taken for a ride, so any heads up would be appreciated!
If the vehicle speed sensor in the rear end is the same as the lighter duty f series they are very vulnerable, they run right above the large gear in the main drive of the rear end gaging the speed off this gear any metal chip or anything foating in the rear end can get grabbed by this gear and hit the sensor then it is ruined very common in fords. your can check the part at autozone or similiar store for lighter duty trucks it is 19$ and very easy to get to right on top of the rear end. If this is the problem id have the gear oil changed and check for debris in rear end to keep this from happening again. good luck
Unfortunately, there is no speed sensor in the rear end on this model. Any other suggestions?
unfortunately i am not familiar with the large chasis f series, If the vehicle has rear anti-lock brakes the the odo and speedo would most likely read from the rear anti-lock brake sensor to obtain speed,or a short in power to the cluster, or the digital cluster itself has went bad but without knowing This vehicle im afraid i might send you in the wrong direction sorry.
