Hi..my 2009 1.3 toyota avanza had a idle problem when the a/c turn on.idle goes up and down and click sound on and off of the aircond compressor.normal idle if i turn ac off.what could the problem be.

there is an idle up solenoid on the the carburetor. adjust the idle speed at 800-900rpm. RPM up and down is due to a/c compressor engaging. if the rpm drops too low, a/c compressor disengages. observe your idle speed with engine warmed up, turn on airconditioner and adjust the idle compensating vacuum diaphragm adjustng screw underneath the carburetor to the same rpm when a/c was off. that should correct your rpm problem

Engine revving while stopped

On all older vehicles with a carburetor there is an adjustment for high and low idle. Adjust the high idle so that it isn't so high

check that the idle solenoid shut off needle is connected . It is used to stop engine run when the ignition is turned off. If it is not connected the idle circuit of the carby will not function and the engine stops.

I have a 1984 nissan 720 pickup truck that i noticed idles high when stopped, then the idle goes low then high and back and forth. What is causing it?

Engine stalling and rough run issue at low speeds

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

AND USE CARBURETOR CLEANER TO CLEAN THROTTLE BORE AND THROTTLE PLATE FROM CARBON DEPOSITS MAKE SURE ENGINE TUNED UP YOU HAVE FUEL INJECTORS CLEAN NEW FUEL FILTER.NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES IF ENGINE HAS 100000 MILES ON IT.

Engine fluctuating and cutting out all the time when slowing down to stop cos the revs drop too low

Hi.

If engine revolutions are going up and down even when you are driving, then you have a problem with the EGR valve.

If problem is only when engine is idle, most common fault is the IAC (idle air control) valve, which regulates air when engine is idle. If IAC is OK, check air intake and the sensors installed in the air intake (MAF and IAT). The sensors detect the amount and temperature of air coming into the intake and determine the right amount of air to be mixed with fuel and injected.

There are more problems that even if less frequently can cause rough idle. A good thing to do would DBII DTC scan can be done for free at the nearest Autozone.

Regards.

IDLE SPEED TO LOW.MANUAL TRANSMISSION IDLE SPEED IS 750 RPM AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IDLE SPEED IS 850 RPM.IF IDLE SPEED IS CORRECT YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER OR FAULTY SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.YOUR IGNITION TIMING IS OFF.YOU COULD HAVE INTAKE VACUUM LEAK AT INTAKE MANIFOLD OR EGR VALVE GASKET LEAKING OR BAD FUEL INJECTOR IF YOU HAVE FUEL INJECTION.FAULTY MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP IF CARBURETOR.ALSO CARBURETOR FLOAT BOWL TOO LOW.

89chevy truck runs roughly

Isn't it fuel injected? More likely:
Pull plug wires one at a time, the one that has no effect isn't firing. Bad plug or wire.

92 celica dies when it idles down, but will start back up

1st off your car doesn't have a carburetor, it is fuel injected and will compensate for any altitude change up to 5,000 feet, here is what u need to do.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
