Usually the door latch will go bad when the door hinge bushings are very worn. Inspect the door hinge by holding the door a grab the outside door handle and the door shell firmly. Now lift the door up vertically and see if there is any play in the hinges. If the slightest movement is found replace the door hinge pins and bushings. your door latch may work great again If not replace that too
Over time door hinges wear and sag
If the door has sagged you should see wear on the top of the strike pin
Ford doors are pretty easy to adjust in this vintage
Try adjusting the latch first if you can't get the door to shut correctly then you may have to adjust the hinges

Try adjusting the lower latch located on the floor (where the door locks) by loosing the 2 star shaped bolts and moving it a BIT (1mm or 2mm) forward and tightening them again.

the struts would have no effect on the catch at all. chances are the floor catch has moved inwards a little, re adjust to fit correctly/watertight.

Happened to mine...wrap a few layers of duct tape around it..It gives it the lift and cushion to re-align the door..works like it is brand new.smooth and quiet shut.
