"HOW TO":
Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with an Automatic Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
4. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with an Automatic Tensioner:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them.

I have a 96 saturn sl1 the idler pulley froze up and the serpentine belt broke I replaced the pulley and belt now it won't start like its only firering on 2or3cylinders its missing like backfiring spitting...

Check to see if the belt dislocated any spark plug wires when it broke. check with the engine off and cool to see if the wires need to be pushed back on either at the distributor or the ends of the plugs.

I cannot reach pulley bolt on my 2002 saturn any suggestions on how to reach it to replace belt

You have to jack up the right side of the vehicle, remove the right tire and the wheel well covering in order to gain easier access to the right side of your engine compartment in order to change the serpentine belt. I have changed the serpentine belt on my 2002 SC-1 Saturn without doing this, but you have to be very patient because there is only about 2 inches of clearance to work. A long handled box wrench works for me on the tensioner bolt when removing the belt.

Crank shaft seal leaking on 96 saturn sli 1.9 liter

In order to replace the seal your will have to remove the serpentine belt, the water pump pulley, the plastic timing belt cover, the crankshaft pulley and etc. You should get a book(from oriellys or Auto Zone) that will give you the exact process since it is hard to give step by step procedure without diagrams etc. They are good books.

How to replace serpentine belt on SAturn Vue

On the 4cly 2.2 engine you DO NOT need to remove the engine mount. If you remove the right front wheel, there is an access panel held in place by plastic push pins. If you remove this panel, it is very easy to remove the belt by attaching a serpentine belt removal tool to the 3/8" drive hole in the tensioner arm.

Serpentine belt on 96 saturn sc loose what could it be

Hello there:
Normally a serpentine belt will stay on tight untill it begins to strech out after it streches out to far the tention idler pulley cannot keep the belt tension tight any longer thus resulting in a belt either coming off or other things happening So what i would do is to first remove the serpentine belt and ensure that the tention idler pulley is working good make sure it does not just move freely than get a new belt and install now you should be ok
Hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

2001 Saturn, need a Serpentine belt diagram

get a floor jack and a small block of wood. place the floor jack under the oil pan. jack up the jack until you feel it on the oil pan. remove the engine mount. you will need a deep 15mm socket and a 6inch extension. the mount has 4 bolts. remove it. then jack the engine up with the floor jack until the power steering reservoir almost touches the cowl. now take a long 14mm wrench and place that on the bolt head on the belt tensioner. pull the wrench until the belt slacks up. remove the belt. Installation opposite of removal. Here is a belt diagram. I hope this helps!! If you have any problems or questions e-mail me at: [email protected]
