1999 kia mentor park brake light

a very unsafe car, to drive, park it. or get the shop to fix it.
CV joint or super bad brakes. yes brakes can fail ,brakes not even used. (like cracked rotors or siezed guide pins)
get the car fixed, it is not safe to drive

are log bolts tight;?
jack up each wheel, and see if one is loose, bad dangerous wheel bearings or loose suspension parts, but get a pro to find it.
do not guess.. Get it Inspected, and stay SAFE

check the GROUND circuit on the tail lights . thats what goes bad

WHEN ALL IS OUT OF WAY, PULL OR HAMMER OUT CV JOINT AT POINT WHERE IT IS ATTACHED TO TRANSAXLE, BE CAREFUL NOT TO HIT TO HARD, SHOULD PULL OUT EASILY, TO INSTALL DO REVERSE, INSTALL AXLE INTO HOLE IN TRANSAXLE AND PUSH OR TAP IN,LINE UP STRUT AND BOLT HOLES TO MARKS YOU MADE THEN ATTACH TO ROTOR AND ATTACH DISC AND CALIPER, TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS WITH TORQUE WRENCH TO SPECS.PUT TIRE BACK ON CAR, REMOVE BLOCKS, LOWER CAR, TAKE FOR TEST DRIVE,,

If it stays on it means 1 or more of the following:
low brake fluid level.
worn brake pads.
failed brake circuit.
Broken switch.

If the CV boot was damaged you can almost bet the CV itself needs replacing as moisture and dirt has probably ruined the joint. Replace the CV joint.

There's no repair to the hub bearing assembly, seal unit, to replace first remove axle nut ( 32 or 36 mm) might need some one to step on brake while removing nut, so it done turn on you, remove front brake caliper and caliper bracket, then remove brake rotor, on back side of hub bearing there three bolt's, remove, hub bearing should slide out, some time with a little help from a hammer, install new hub bearing.

With the hood open:

Put the car in park take off the emergency brake and push the car forward and back looking for a difference in movement of the CV joints where the Axle mates to the CV. I.e.... CV joint travels a short distance before you see any axle movement. Worn CV joint knuckles will cause all kinds of clunking.

If there is no movement between the CV joint and axle when you push the car fwd or back you already know the problem is internal to the transmission.

Matthew, look for two threaded holes on the brake drum. Use a approx. 8mm bolt to force the drum off. If not, loosen the brake shoes from behind in case there is a ridge on the inside of the drum preventing the drum from coming off. Other than that, take a hammer and hit outside of the center hub to free drum from hub.

Try adding a bottle of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabiliser to the gearbox, it made hell of a difference to my Kia

Not to bad you will need a ball joint spreader. some sockets wrench's.prybar.Remove the tire then loosen cv bolt. Remove brake caliber and bracket.re move ball joint nut.Remove steering rod nut.Get the ball joint spreader an remove steering rod then remove the ball-joint.Take the cv bolt off grab the strut and pull outward .With a rubber mallet knock cv out of housing.The remove from transmission.you my have pry a little.
