I recently replaced a few lights behind my cluster and when I went to restart it ran for about 3 secs and then died. I crack the throttle wide open, still dies. The computer is obviously shutting fuel off to the motor, however I tried to reset the passlock and that didn't help. Vehicle is a 97 sunfire, manual. any ideas?

Here is a description of how it works - maybe it will be of help for you or your mechanic...
1. When the lock is turned to "ON", the lock is sending the resistance signal to the Theft Decoder Module (built into the IPC), but the module is not yet looking for it.
2. When the lock is turned to "START", the ignition switch grounds the "bulb check' wire to the IPC which activates a time window that the module expects to see the signal from the lock.
3. When the engine starts and the key is released to the "RUN" position, the lock resistance is sent to the module.
4. When the module is satisfied with the resistance from the lock (and the timing of its delivery...), the module then sends its password via the data bus to the PCM that all is OK and the vehicle keeps on running.
You may have caused a loose connection when replacing the illumination lamps.

2015 Volkswagen Passat 1.8 TSI dying or limp mode

P228C, it has applied exclusively to diesel powered vehicles. It has also meant that the powertrain control module (PCM) had detected a low voltage signal from the control circuit of the electronic fuel pressure regulator, which reflected insufficient fuel pressure.

Motor shuts off when started up,shuts off when driving.

hot engine or cold, or both? 180F+ is hot.
Shuts off, idling or on the fly, say at 30mph right foot down it dies?
just clue here...
engine stalls. is complex. but in the macro its below, using tools finds the reason,, but you never said did it restart easy./??????
1: lost of engine compression hot engine, (or overheated)
2: lost 12vdc electric power at stall (caused it) dash goes dead. ?
3: lost spark, test spark at the failure point. if dead trouble shoot speak.
4 bad fueling, too lean (say the fuel pump dies) or too rich.
too rich causes wet spark plug tips. (lots of causes )
5: stalls due to idle RPM too low, below 800 is too low.
too low idle rpm is caused by many things, but top 2 are.
A: EGR stuck wide open, clean it, as the books shows at 60k miles
B: ISC stuck closed. (same deal clean it)

now repost and say when it stalled,
at a read light or flying up a hill wot, wot= wide open throttle.
and when it dies, is the restart easy or hard.

Just turns off on it's own, Wait 60 sec. restart press pedel it dies.

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.

Lights behind odometer and gages are partially

you need to remove the whole cluster, there is a bunch of light bulbs behing the cluster, once it is removed it is fairly simple

My pick up just die on my way down town. i went to restart it, and it ran really rough. i tried again and still ran rough, but i drove it to a shop. it's over fuelling and won't stay running.

throttle body injectors and problem to blame! they sound stuck open and might be from a short in the wiring harness or the are just leaky. but sound like if it was fine then just happened i would look at the harness and ecm (engine computer) good luck

Speedometer needle is stuck behind the pin

Here is how it happens, The positive battery cable was loose, after adjusting the battery cable the speedometer needle went under the retention ping.
How to fix it:
1- remove the positive battery cable
2- have a person to look at the speedometer needle
3- Make the battery cable to touch the positive terminal of the battery (this will make the needle to jump over the retention pin)
4- Tight cable again.

Check the crankshaft position sensor. If the plug is loose or the sensor itself is bad it will cause similar problems
