'STOP - ENGINE TEMPERATURE'
warning light flickers and chime sounds intermittently when temperature is normal. I've replaced the sensor. There is no pattern to when this happens, I can drive for miles with no problem and then it will start. I can start the car at home and it will happen and sometimes continue for just a few seconds or sometimes an hour, then it will stop and start again later ....... or maybe not ........ totally random. I've taken the wire off the sensor and it still happens !

dear Hun~ It all has to do with the Vats system in your car. You can bypass it or get a new key or you might need a new ignition cylinder.

Hello carol...from the symptons you describe more than likely it's the CPS (crankshaft position sensor.)
The CPS is a common problem on Cateras with these symptoms.
The sensor is a magnetic impulse type that sends a signal to the computer, the computer then triggers the fire signal. When the CPS gets weak, dirty or has low voltage the intermitten no starts occur. It will finally result in a no start at all...Please be aware that a lot of caddy dealers will and have overcharged customers for this common problem by ill advise and replaceing uneeded componets.
Good luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.

A few things could be wrong....it could be your brake control module, anti-lock brake system or a wheel speed sensor. The best thing to do is to get it into a garage and have them take a look at it and give you an idea of what is wrong. Either way, if you do not have the proper tools, you are better off taking it to the shop.
I hope this helps.

You would be better off going to a Cadillac Dealership and paying the diagnostic fee. Spend $65 to find out what the real problem is rather than replacing parts until the car runs properly. This way you get it from a Cadillac Technician. Once you know what the problem is you can decide on where you want to have it service. Because you are paying for the diagnostics you shouldn't feel obligated to have it done at a Dealership. Please leave me good feedback if you feel this has helped.

Check both fans for free turning and no bearing noise (engine cold). Replace any motors that are suspect. You need to verify that the fans come on--turn on the A/C which should force the fans to run all the time. If they do, that eliminates the fans, relay, fuse, and computer. The temperature gauge should be driven by the computer with information from the temperature sensor, which also controls fan operation when the A/C is turned off. If the temperature gauge is driven from a different source, then the temperature sensor would be the place to look. Both fans should turn on shortly after the thermostat opens releasing water from the engine into the radiator (feel the upper hose). Use compressed air to blow out all the bugs and other debris from the radiator core (from the engine side). I hope this helps.
