Click on the following free direct Link. It has the Timing: Belt and Mark Diagrams for the 1988 Daihatsu Charade 1.0L 3-Cylinder which is the closest to the Hijet. Plus additional Instructional and Directional Diagrams.

Note: the annotated Align Matings Marks located on the engine casing, or the Belt Alignment Marks.
I owned one of these while living in Japan.

Let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions. Feel Free to contact me at FixYa.com!

Does anyone know where to find, or have a electrical manual for a S82 Daihatsu HiJet? And I mean S82. Not s100-S140!

Google has diagrams and links to Service Manuals. Or you could take a month subscription to AllData.com. What you are trying is not an easy job.

Timing belt

first ever post, with displacement . 93 Rodeo,
so can be looked up .

the belt (gates) comes with instructions, did you buy a cheap
china belt off fleabay? with none?

alldata.com shows
its a DOHC engine.
28 steps

first the warning. at step 13
Set the timing sprockets so that the crankshaft and camshaft sprocket timing marks align with the timing marks on the oil pump and front plate. When the timing marks are align, no pistons are at TDC for the compression stroke. Valve damage may result if the sprockets and belt are out of alignment.

there is a tensioner that as a locking pin,.do you know how to do that?

ill not answer how do it all, only the timing question.
here is the answer.
Ill answer not for removal but install.

install : step 1 and 2
  1. Align the groove on the crankshaft timing pulley with mark on the oil pump.
  2. Align the marks on the camshaft timing pulleys with the dots on the front plate.

photo 1 shows crank marked at 3pm cog wheel. and pump base.
photo 2 shows.

HOW ADJUST TIMING BELT

There should be no reason to 'adjust' the timing belt: it is either fitted and working or not fitted..therefore having to replace one? If you do have to replace one, it is not a job for the faint hearted! You will also have to make sure you have a spare car for back-up.. e.g: if you plan to do this job and get driving in short time think again... You need as much room, both visual and physical around the plastic timing cover, you need to ensure the timing cogs are pre marked (with dots) showing what is called TDC (top dead centre) ENSURE THESE DOTS LINE UP PERFECTLY BEFORE REMOVAL AND AFTER RE-FITTING NEW BELT.. apart from that crucial bit.. it's simply a matter of cleanliness and patience.. remember to loosen the belt tensioner prior and re-tighten after fitting new belt.. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!

I need to know where the timing marks should be when installing a new head and timing belt.

hi from uk the cambelt timing marks you req are as follows the crank cog has a dot indent on it and it has to align with same mark on the engine front at approx 12-30 pm position? it is clearly visible then the cam cog you will see a small drilled hole on the cog between the outer toothed and the centre securing bolt ? this hole in cog has to be positioned at top 12 o'clock position then look through this hole and you will see it lines up with a V indent on cyl head this too is clearly visible and advise setting this up b4 fitting c/head for ease ? with these marks set up the engine is at T D C number 1 firing just a note! if you arefitting new belt? it is advisable to replace the tensioner too ! as a kit here in uk belt+tensioner costs £50 if you wish? i can scan and e mail full instructions on cambelt+tensioner strip+renewal proceedure plus detailed diagram of belt set up and relevent marks and tensioner proceedure if you send an e mail address best wishes from n/west uk
