Most likely the solenoid package. They are on the outside of the transmission. One plug, three bolts. Remove the cooler lines and one speed sensor and it is out. First clean all around the solenoid package, especially the back side. You don't want to get any dirt in the holes. Part costs about $300.

I can't get my 2005 Dodge Durango to shift into third gear. I need help please.

You can only diagnose problems like yours with a pro grade scan tool computer as opposed to a generic 'code reader'. It may be the shift solenoid or a computer data issue. A 5 grand scan tool can instruct shift solenoids to operate and verify that they have. They can also diagnose issues with the data transfers. The Durango works entirely by computer instructions from module to module.

What causes codes 700 and 740 to set on a 2005 dodge grand caravan?

P0700 is just the powertrain control module being signed to turn the check engine light on to indicate alert you to a transmission issue. As far as the other one goes you likely have a failed Torque converter clutch so the solenoid would not fix the problem. You will need to remove the transmission and replace the TC

Speedometer pinned all the way around?Dodge grand caravan 2002

If the transmission will still shift then the problem is in the instrument cluster. Will need to be repaired at the dealer or a speedometer repair shop.If the transmission will not shift then the problem is most likely in the TCM(transmission control module)and/or wiring.Need to have transmission and body computer codes pulled. You will need to go to a professional repair facility to do this because the code pullers they use at the parts stores will not access these codes.

Mounted on the trany is a speedometer sensor. The vehical will not up-shift it, sensor, is malfunctioning. The vehicles computer doesn't know that it is not going fast enough to change gears.

Shifting gears

the speed sensor is for Overdrive only, it does not shift the gears it sends the signal to the transmission control module that in turn signals the overdrive shift solenoid to engage/shift into OD.

2003 grand caravan transmission will not shift out of low

it sounds as though your transmission input and output sensors are faulty.they are located on the driver side of transmission.input at front of trans.output at rear of transmission. normally if input sensor is faulty trans will stay in limp mode. if output sensor is faulty speedo will not register. they both resemble temp sensors with elec connectors
