Look for maintainence records Get a car fax Make sure everything works even if the owner says it is a minor problem you must ASSUME it will cost major money to fix. Timing chains or belts for example are over 4000 dollars to fix on these models so get receipts for work done. Check the blue book value Check out online bmw forums and talk to other owners of this particular make and model to get their opinons.

No problem bmw's are great cars BUT even if you are wealthy the issues it may have can be a headache that would prevent you from really enjoying it. It's better to be patient, pay a littlle more for a car in truly good condition than to take a chance with your hard earned money on something that may give you grief.

Good luck !

Another good way to know about these cars is to visiti a bmw mechanic and ask him what kind of problems these cars come into his shop with he will be happy to tell you what problems they most often have and not charge you for the advice.

Losing coolant but no leaks on my BMW 5 series 528i. , 2000 model

Look in the radiator for the presence of oil or bubbles. See if water is dripping from the tail pipe. All these indicate the engine is burning the coolant. Look for a blown head gasket or a cracked head.

Rattle in front end of my 2000 528i need a manual to see what part number to order

That makes no sense. If you know what is wrong and needs to be replaced, go to the dealer or auto part store and buy the necessary parts.

97 BMW 528i

He should have all the service receipts, ask for them. A friend had expensive problems with his transmission. Remember, he wants to sell it to you rather than you want to buy it from him. Keep the power on your side and don't be afraid to offer a really low price. You'll hear one of two answers: yes or no. Its not the last beemer anyway.

What should i look for when buying a 97 bmw 528i. Im about to purchase one off of my machanic ive been going to over 6yrs. He siad its in excelent condition and theres nothing wrong with it. it look mint...

Take the car for a test drive, around town, and on the freeway. Notice how well and when it shifts, listen for any unusual noises and rattles when hitting bumps. Have the car put on a lift and check the underneath side for any wets spots of pssoble leaks. If possible, remove the wheels and check the brakes and struts.

100000 mile service checks/replacement parts on a 2000 BMW 528i

If your talking about what would a dealership change, it generally consists of a tune up, including spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, oil change, pcv valve, and fuel filter. Thats also usually when they want to replace the timing belts. There may be one or two other things specific to BMW, but generally thats what you can expect.
