I have recently replaced my lube oil filter and oil. The Mountaineer is running fine, but the 'oil change required' alert is still showing on the dashboard. How do I reset the 'oil change required' alert.

Usually this is a symptom of oil starvation. The oil is not returning to the top of the engine fast enough. Sometimes the oil drains in the heads are clogged and the oil can not flow to the crankcase and be returned to the top of the engine. You may need to run an oil cleaner. You may have a problem with the oil filter check valve and need a Ford oil filter. The proper weight of oil is also necessary. After the oil warms it will flow better.
A mechanic can remove the oil pressure sender, temporarily install an oil pressure gauge and really find out what your pressure is doing.
Many issues can cause this alert from a loose gas cap to poor air intake due to dirty filter , poor running conditions. It needs to be hooked up to computer to determine problem. Sometime by removing the red battery terminal and replacing it after a couple minutes you are resetting the computer and you can get another alert that tells you exactly what the problem was prior to the required alert coming on which over rides all others.
The instructions on how to reset the' oil change required' message is in the owners manual (I believe it's page 81). Listed below is a site to get a free download of the manual for your 05 Mountaineer. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing this info. https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/results.asp
Ok
filter problem could be there filters that have a valve used to chek
the oil gallery is not downloaded and so when the engine begins to work
up the pressure quickly. Also in other systems, this valve is fitted in the pump aceite.thanks good luck
I say maybe because if you've ever taken you car into a quick lube place and they've changed your filter they are Notorious for installing the new filter on TOO TIGHT!. They are actually told to do this so the owner is forced to come back and have them do the next oil change. Its almost criminal.
The plug to drain the oil from the car is a simple 5/8in bolt, a socket or open ended wrench with work just fine.
The Oil filter SHOULD be able to unscrew by hand. Now if its on there too tight. There is a tool at any auto parts store called a Oil filter Wrench. They run around 10-20 bucks. all it is a handle with a metal ribbon that loops around the filter and allows a better grip.
You can also get away with jamming a screw driver into the filter and using that for leverage to unscrew it from the engine. *Note* This is extremely messy!!!
Just remember when installing a new filter to tighten it one half turn after it becomes tight. It does not need to be cranked on there hard.
First off is your compressor pre-lubed? to find out, remove shipping caps from ports and tip to side and see if any oil comes out. As a rule of thumb, The oil is sold in a small bottle pre measured for the entire system. 1/4 bottle per item (compressor, evaporator, condenser, and filter/dryer) The label showing cc's will do fine for your oil needs as the system will find its own level once activated. Oil continuously flows througout system. Need I remind you that when replacing compressor you should also replace filter/dryer so you do not repeat this job in two months.
