I bought a filter for my 2003 mitsubishi spyder. It looks like an oil filter rather than the common transmission "flat filer". I can't find this filter on the outside of the transmission. Is it by chance on the inside?

Yes - that filter requires you to remove the transmission pan - the one with all the bolts holding it on - about 20 of them - it will seem like 100 - also replace the gasket too - filter and gasket and fluid - all at the same time frame

Unfortunately the filter for the automatic transmission is inside the transmission case and it would have to be disassembled completely. These are the "lifetime" filter designs.

I have a 2003 mits eclipse spider. Never had any problems until now. Driving 45mph and car dies I lose all power with no gears not even reverse. Acts as if transmission went out. Towed it home drained...

it would help if i knew if it was and automatic or manual transmission. in either case most transmissions have magnets in the drain pan to keep metal particles from re entering the system. so simply removing the drain plug wont tell you much. other than that without know weather or not its and auto or manual i cant help you out. please clarify and im sure we can find a solution

Where is the transmission filter on 2003 mitsubishi outlander

It is inside the transmission, you have to get under the car, drop the oil , if it has a plug, or drop the pan, oil will leak for days, 2 or 3 bolts hold the filter in place, take out the plastic plug if you find one floating around in the pan, and put it all back together.

How hard is it to replace an oil pump in a 2003 spyder

The oil pump is located on the bottom side of the engine. It is actually an internal engine part. This is a difficult repair because of space restraints. Most usually you have to disassemble things to get the oil pan off, which is what is covering up the oil pump.
