2001 mazda mpv won't shift into gear. After I jiggle the gear shifter around for a minute or two I'm able to get it into gear but I know something has to be fixed. The little box that outlines the gear it's in isn't always visible as well. Any suggestions?

It sounds like your transmission is either not shifting down to first gear, or the lock up in the converter is not releasing.

don't know if your vehicle even has a trans temp sensor. if it did it would be located internally inside the trans pan in valve body. check your trans fluid level, color, and smell. worn trans fluid will cause trans shift issues. burned trans fluid is an indication your clutches are burning and slipping.

If it won't shift from park my first question would be how do you get it Into neutral? Sounds like you may have a gear selector sensor issue .

shift interlock is not working at shifter key wont turn to come out unless signal from switch tells it is in park.

I had this issue in the past. All I did was to replace the brake switch. This part is located behind the brake pedal. Btw, if you this run into this issue again in the future, you can always push this switch with your finger and it's located on top of your steering wheel enclosure, this will disengage the shifter.there is a small rectangle shape cover that you need to remove first.

are you asking why it won't change into dd or why won't the shifter go to lower gears?

it sounds like a shift lock solinoid ....this prevents the car from being shifted out of park when ur foot is not on the brake....u will have to bring this to a repair shop since the faulty part is located inside the paneling where ur shifter handle is

2001 MAzda MPV- Key was stuck in ignition. Would not turn all the way back to remove. I pulled the fuse for the Hazards and WHOLA!! Key turned back and could be removed.! Just to test the problem I put the key back in , started up , pulled up and back a few feet, turned the steering wheel and parked. Key was stuck again. I pulled the fuse and again ... WHOLA! key was released. Now what I need to do is fix the problem or I have to pull a fuse every time I stop the car - ANY ADVICE??

The neutral saftey switch is on the front of trans. To remove, unscrew the four screws that hold up the plastic cover, remove it then look at front of tran it will be right there.it will have the shifter cable attatached to it. Loosen the bolt an make shure to put the van in nuetral there will be a small hole at the top of the shifting nob put a small brill bit through the hole an through the saftey switch this will aline the two an should start.

It's a fuse issue. Part of the shift interlock system.

If the radio is also not working, it's the cigarette lighter fuse. This one fuse controls the cigarette lighter, the radio, and the shift interlock system. It's in the kick panel fuse box on the driver's side.

If it's not that fuse, it's the "Stop" fuse in the same panel. Both blown fuses create the same behavior.

Easy fix! Don't bother with a mechanic. If the fuse continues to blow, take it to be checked.
