Hi, I own a 1997 Ford E 350 Econoline, I have the following transmission engagement problem: Truck will not start: Transmission will not engage any gear, neutral or park. The shift lever feels like is not engagin any thing (moves freely) except at the very bottom (like 2-or 1 position, I feel like engage 1 or 2 gears). I did the following troubleshooting? myself: Raised vehicle and manually moved transmission lever to the park position with the following results. 1.- The truck started 2.- Transmission engaged: Reverse, Neutral, and Drive. Good? not so; I tried to put the transmission in park and nothing happened, did not engaged neutral, reverse or park. Got stuck in drive range, and again truck will not start. I may be wrong but shift cable is working, but I can not understand why will not pull back the transmission lever. Any advise/suggestion will be appreciated. Regards from Michigan.

The weld on the manual lever is known to break loose. First, with the wheels off the ground, with the lever in the park position, does the drive shaft lock in park? If yes or no sometimes, drop the trans pan. I bet the nut on the lever camd loose.

99 ford e-350 V-10 Transmission seems to go into neutral?

these transmissions will not function properly if they don't have Mercon V in their transmissions. If any other type of ATF was added, it may gel in the tranny pan creating a lack of engagement, followed by a rhythmic vibration/rattle. Try flushing the tranny

Run the fault codes to see if the TCM ( transmission control module) is faulty or servos have failed . have a pressure test done on the box to check operating pressures for the clutch packs and bands.

1997 ford expedition wont engage in foward or backward

That happened to my old truck, an 04 dodge, and I said to myself " chancery, old chap, this must mean a new transmission" , I was mistaken. The solenoid pack in the tranny was bad. I had that replaced for a fraction of the cost of a new tranny and never once had another transmission problem.

Ford econoline,2006 tranny slipping,wont shift

A slipping transmission, especially when you look at the oil on the dipstick and it is a very dark brown, should be headed directly to your local transmission rebuilder. The servos that keep the bands tight or the clutch pack engaged have worn and are leaking so badly that the pump can't keep up. The shifting problem is usually caused by a valve body that has gotten some crud in it - probably contaminated by all of the clutch material floating around in the oil. Good luck.
