Not hard at all.remove tires.then remove 2 screws either 12mm or 14mm that hold the brake caliper in place.remove caliper but DO NOT disconnect the brake line from the caliper.get a C-CLAMP in order to get the caliper piston pushed back in.remove old brake pads and install new ones in the same order as the old ones were removed.you will want to check the rotors to make sure they are in good condition before you install the new pads, then put caliper back on and tighten screws to specs.do the same on the other side and always remember to PUMP YOUR BRAKE PEDAL A FEW TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE CALIPER PISTONS TO ENGAGE ON THE NEW PADS. hope this info helps.good luck and take care, manny

When changing front pads or rear pads you should take the caliper brackets off and romove the anti-rattle clips to clean any rust that is behind them, if there is rust the brake pads could stick.

I have a Toyota RAV 4 2005 Model which just went above 95000Km. I had engine oil and the brake pads changed 3 days ago. Just yesterday my engine check light came on and the VSC TRAC read off. What do these...

have whomever replaced the brakes look into it. seems related. Also is the abs light on as well? usually both lights come on together related to anti-lock braking and traction control.

2003 rav 4, just replaced front calipers and pads, after bleeding the line, peddle was spongie, bled all four lines, peddle still spongie, do I need the engine running to properly bleed the lines, and since...

I would bleed the rears too especially if the brake fluid reservoir drained empty. Also you may need to drive the vehicle to seat the brake pads. Check and see how the pedal feels initially before you road test to make sure you don't need to pump the brakes in order to stop. if you do then re bleed all four wheels. If you don't have to pump the pedal and it just feels spongy then try going around the block a few times and see if the pedal stiffens up after the pads have seated.

2003 rav 4 2 ltr petrol changed front discs and pads now have lots of high pitch noise have taken apart and used lots of copper slip and its still happening talked to local toyota garage who said i mave...

someones trying to pull your chain.....the pads fit both sides of the disc(rotor)BUT if the discs were scored then the noise is the pads trying to bed into the scores/ridges....if you can feel a ridge of more than 1mm on the outer edge then you should replace the discs.(dont bother to undercut)then you would have no noise at all.as a matter of interest the front discs last no more than 30.000 miles.fact...unless you use the gearbox to slow down and not the brakes.then 40.000.

My toyota 2001 rav 4 makes rubbing sound only when i step on the brakes, thought it was the front brake early indicator, so changed front brakes..they needed it! But still makes the noise..sounds like it's...

Yes, this will be the rear brakes. Most of these are the same design as the front and are as easy to replace. You should always change all the front and back brakes at the same time, as it will affect braking and handling.

Change rear brakes and your problem will be resolved.

Increased pedal travel on rav 4 sign of brake pad wear?

Brake pads usually last a long time depending on what type they are and how you use them. If you brake hard or tow anything they will probably last in the ballpark of 30-50K, and under normal service you could get up to 70- 100K on a pair of pads. If you remove the tires you should be able to poke your head under the wheel well with a flashlight and see how much pad is left. Also do keep in mind that excessive pedal travel while braking can also be caused by air in the brake lines as well as worn out pads and rotors. Air is a gas and can be conpressed in a hydraulic system (such as your brake system), where as brake fluid is a liquid and cannot be compressed. This is why air in the system is bad and can allow your foot pedal to move much further as you are having to compress all the air in the system before you actually start getting any braking power, make sense?? I hope this helps you out!

2007 Rav 4- Front Brake pad growl during stops

I had a 2008 rav4 and within the first 10,000 I noticed this problem. Had the pads changed at 12, 22, 30, all free of charge from the dealer. Had the rotors replaced as well twice, the issue came up again & since it was a lease I threatened to sue and I was released from my term fee free. If you are having the same issue post here we need to open a dialogue. I'm sure many people have just paid for repairs without thinking it's an issue on the vehicle. Toyota will deny it until it's a media issue....
