I noticed that my car had been leaking alot of oil so i went to the store in it and it ran fine up there. so i pull up to pump some gas and buy a qrt of oil too, well when i get back to my car i noticed it...

Hi Jessie,
There could be several possibilities.
The first is the engine became overheated and wouldn't start while it was very hot.
The good news is the motor would crank over. If it overheated too much, the car would not crank over.
Check the oil in the motor again and make sure that it comes to the full mark on the dip stick.
Also check the colour of the oil. It should be clear, and just like the oil you put into the motor.
Check the water in the radiator. Is the water up to the full level. Is the water clear?
I suspect that you could have overheated the engine, and that you may have blown the head gasket, or even cracked the engine head - which I hope you haven't.
You can see this often by the oil becoming cloudy or milky, and/or the coolant in the radiator becoming cloudy.
This can cause the engine to lose compression, or even have water getting into the cylinders and also preventing it from starting.
Check that you have spark at each of the spark plugs - in case you have an electrical problem.
Hope this helps to get you out of trouble. If you are stuck at the gas station, they may have a product like Chemi-Weld, that will temporarily seal the head gasket and even a cracked head.
Best of luck, Michael.

From empty it takes approx 5 qrts plus filter. The filter will take a half a qrt + or - .You never want to start a car with a dry filter. It is a habit that made perfect sense to me as I grew up.

Bought the envoy w/ 70,000 miles, fresh oil change. @ 74,000 miles it was 1.5 qrts low, put in 5w30, checked oil 2 weeks later it was 1 qrt low. do not see smoke or any leaking.

I just bought a 2005 envoy too. I read in the manual that the 4.6 6 cyl engine needs 7 qts total. 2 Over the normal oil change. Is it possible it wasn't low to start? I noticed when Walmart changed the oil they charged extra for the change because it needed the two extra qts. However my dip stick has oil over the full mark. Seemed strange but I haven't had any leaks and after 3k mile no change in level. Make sure you had the correct about the first time.

I have a 1993 ford explorer 2wd. It has about 275,000 miles on it. For some reason my transmission fluid is leaking into the engine oil. When I noticed that my transmission was slipping, I put a qrt. of...

If you have a vacuum modulator on the trans,it could have a bad diaphram and **** trans fluid into the engine.
Now I do not know what model or unit trans you have. No vacuum mod, then the dealer is correct.
You can look just above the trans oil pan, near the rear, for that part and easily change yourself. Get at auto parts store. It will be the thing with a 3/16 vacuum hose on it,going to a port or vacuum switch on intake manifold

2007 charger 3.5

If you see no leaks,, you could possibly have any one of the vacuum hoses incorrect ,, check those first as it will make the motor push out the oil, and soon will damage any gaskets in that area

How many qrt. does the oil engine hold

If this has the small filter witch they usally do it will take 4 1/2 qts. Just put the oil in and check and add accordingly.

Just need to know if the engine is a 4 qrt or 5 qrt system. The car is a 2005 grand am 6 cylinder engine 3400 sfi is marked on top of engine.

Don't have chart on that one,But, easy way to tell is to put in 4qts, start & run it, then turn it off, wait five min for oil to drain back into pan & check dipstick. If 1 qt low, add another. This won't hurt engine at all and sometimes is easier than trying to find specs!!!

Oil

Hi michelle2551,providing the oil dipstick is the right one for your car then if it reads 1/2 qrt low it should be topped up typically when an oil change is performed and the car is started it will fill the oil filter therefore appearing a little low, it may read full initially but once it is run and shutoff it reads low follow the manufacturers oil level indicator and top it up hope this helps good luck
