Mine did that - I removed little plastic slot under steering wheel and put finger inside and push button on left and it'll remove key while holding button. I just use it like that all the time

You may want to try pushing fordward harder into the park position while turning the key to the off position. The locking cable may need adjustment. If this does not work, try turning the collar just behind the keyswitch counter clockwise while trying to remove the key. Thanks, Dana

2009 Chevy HHR factory amp bypass?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Not a good idea. The entertainment system is driven and monitored by the BCM, so you lose other functions which confuses the computer network.

I have a chevy 1996 hhr and my key got stuck in the ignition but i got it out. However, when i put my key into the ignition the car still will not start? Could this be a dead battery issue or ignition...

To eliminate the battery have a load test done to check the cell conditions. I suspect that it may be an immobiliser problem from the key issue.

2009 HHR Standard (not automatic) Key Stuck in Ignition

FYI this is now a free dealer fix--Service Bulletin--not a recall. chevy sent letters reregarding issue. Mine was the lock cylinder housing was faulty, the piece that holds the springs to the pieces in for the key shape poped out. temp fix is you can unplug wiring harness under steer wheel to disable the car and remote will still lock door and alarm still works. Of course mine went out on a saturday afternoon. you can remove the lock cylinder yourself and take to locksmith, they can fix the cylinder probably for under 10 bucks. i luv it a 16000 car stuck because 1/8" by 1/2" piece of metal comes loose.

My key is stuck in the ignition in the on position and I cant turn my 2009 hhr off. How can I get my key to turn and come out?

FIRST make sure that your shifter is all the way up into the PARK position. Then make sure that the button on the shifter is not sticking. This button operates a switch that energizes a solenoid to keep the key from returning all the way back to the OFF position. If the button is stuck in, sometimes it can be released by tapping on the shift lever. This is a VERY COMMON problem.

Below is a link to a video that explains what I am talking about here.

My 2009 chevy HHR is running and wont turn off. the ignition switch is stuck in the run position. I had to remove the fuel pump fuse to stop the engine. Do I just need to replace the cylinder. I was told...

The chipset also needs to be replaced . Actually the ignition kit comes as a set , which is to be replaced . Try oiling the ignition port , if uve got luck , ull be fine with it . else replace the ignition KIT , which includes , the cylinder, keys , chipset , and a few wiring systems aswell
