You said you hear the pump come on, then said fuel pump not running ??? Check the fuse for the pump, preferably with a test light to verify power is there. Key must be in on position. If the fuse is powered, feel for the fuel pump relay to click when you turn key to on. Put your finger on it while someone turns key to on. If it clicks, check for power at the tank connector on the pump wire, while the engine is cranked. If power there when cranking, the pump must have failed and needs replacing. If the relay clicked with key on, and no power at the pump wire at tank while cranking, then check wiring from relay to pump connector-the fuel wire may have broken. If the relay doesn't click when key turned on, check for the power feed for the pump at the relay terminal. If the relay has power available to be transmitted to pump, then the relay's signal from the computer or the ground side of the relay's coil signal (from the computer) may need checked. If the pump is working, and you have good pressure in the lines, check the injector circuit. Also a fused circuit, so check the fuse first. The injector should have a steady voltage signal to it with key on. The injector only has two wires, the power wire and the ground wire which goes to the computer. When the computer momentarily grounds the injector circuit, the injector "pulses", causing fuel to spray out the bottom.
spray gasoline or carb cleaner into intake. If engine starts, it's a fuel problem. You have a bad (new) fuel pump or relay. Either no power to pump or pump is bad (unlikely but possible).
If the passkey system were not working the engine should not crank and the fuel injectors would be dead. The security light would also stay on. The fuel pump relay gets battery voltage and also voltage from the key switch. The computer grounds the relay to power the pump. The crank sensor does not come into play until the engine is cranking and it supplies a signal for the ignition and injector pulse. Are you not getting power from the key switch to the relay, or from the battery side to the relay ?
I would replace the fuel pump and the fuel pump connector, both have problems in this year that cause excessive current draw and blow the fuse and overheat the system. If the relay socket terminals are discolored from heat that must be replaced as well. Of course before replacing any parts have a GM dealer confirm the problems i have guessed are to the cause.
There is a fuel pump cutoff reset button (and a relay) it is located under the instrument panel at the right (passenger) hand cowl side "kick" side panel, press the button and when you hear a click it is reset.
WHAT KIND OF FUEL PUMP DID YOU BUY GM OR AFTERMARKET,ALOT OF THE AFTERMARKET ONES YOU HAVE TO CUT THE ENDS OFF OF THE PLUG AND CRIMP THEIR NEW ONE ON.I GUESS THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE PLUG GOING TO THE FUEL PUMP GOING BAD.OR YOU COULD HAVE A GROUND WIRE THAT CAME UNDONE.THEIR IS ONE THAT BOLTS TO THE FRAME NEAR THE FILLER NECK AREA.LOOKS LIKE A GROUND STRAP,CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS STILL ON.GET A TEST LIGHT JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU DIDNT GET A FAULTY NEW PUMP.TEST THE PLUG GOING TO THE FUEL PUMP SHOULD BE HOT WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON ...MAY NEED 2 PEOPLE.ALSO CHECK TO SEE IF YOU ARE HOT UNDER THE RELAY WITH YOUR TEST LIGHT.RELAY SHOULD CLICK.ALSO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO SECURITY ISSUES,WITH KEY OR ALARM KILLING POWER TO PUMP.GOOD LUCK
You need a new fuel pump relay. The engine fires up and runs off the oil pressure switch untill the oil pressure PSI is reached at normal operating conditions. When the oil pressure reaches its operating PSI the PCM or engines computer will shut off that circuit and turns on the fuel pump relay to run the fuel pump untill you shut the engine off
Had the same problem with my '96 Silverado with 350 Vortec. The truck would only crank. It would start if fuel was poured down the throttle body. Could not hear the fuel pump hum. Fuse was good, but could not hear relay click. Relay was good, Did some electrical wiring trouble shooting. Turned out that one of the connectors that clasp onto one of the pins of the fuel pump relay wasn't making a good connection, too loose. I just stuck a peice of wire into the connector and pushed the relay back in. Relay clicked, Truck Started. It's been more than 4 yrs. since I made that McGuyver fix. Still firing.
