I have a 1995 toyota tercel that has been running rough and now won't start at all. I looked at the sparkplugs and they were full of fuel. Could it be caused by a faulty ignition knock sensor?

coil packs and plugs are half the job
injectors and fuel pressure also are responsible for rough running along with oxygen sensors
Run the fault codes first to check where a problem may be.

Try checking the air filter. If it's plugged up it could cause grief.
How were the plugs? Fouled or black could indicate running rich which would make it rough. Make sure the PCV valve is not gummed up.

Probably a stuck injector. It could be the engine computer is getting a bad signal from the MAP sensor, too. Run a diagnostic test to verify.

here are a few possibilitys, a bad fuel pressure regulator . the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start ( usually in mornings ) many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. replacement is only cure. black soot on plugs, blake smoke from tailpipe, running rough, stalling. make sure fuel filter is not plugging up. or low fuel pressure from fuel pump. check fuel pressure regulator first. have a good day !! the regulator if bad will cause an instant drop in fuel pressure when turned off. and it will cause a delay in building sufficient fuel pressure,.when starting.

Car is running rich, can be a bad fuel pressure regulator or bad MAP sensor and can even be as simple as a bad vacuum hose that is disconnected. Regardless your engine is running rich (too much gas in to the engine from the fuel injectors) causing your plugs to turn black and foul, which is also causing your engine to sputter.
Start with the simple and check all your vacuum hoses, fuel pressure regulator and MAP sensor.

i would say try replacing the pcv valve and fuel filters if new carbs do the same thing iwould say cut your losses

Pull a spark plug first. If its wet with fuel then most likely you have an issue with ignition. If its dry then I would look at your fuel system.
