You need to replace the whole right side axle shaft. Take the ball-joint loose and the axle nut. Pull the shaft from the hub assembly and then pull it from the transmission

I have a 1988 dodge aires i have been hearing a clicking noise when turn the wheel on the drivers side i was told it was the cv axel im not sure if it is the cv axel how do i replace it

clicking is a sure way to tell if the cv joints are bad,, you should replace them both if your going to do it,, since its only a matter of time before the other one goes out, to replace them your going to have to jack it up, remove the tires, brakes, unbolt the cv joint hold downs from the front end,, and slide them out of the transmission,, it sounds easy , but they can be hard to do, and time consuming, be sure not to mess with the steering arms if possible, that way your alignment will be the same as it was. here is a video of the wheel bearing replacement, but it will also show you what you need to remove to change the axle , ( which he has set off to the side ) http://www.youtube.com/user/scottykilmer#p/search/0/197yHCBg9JE

How do I remove a CV joint from a 99 Dodge Caravan?

Don't. Pull the axel and take it to the parts store. Buy a rebuilt axel. They will want your old one for a core. It will save knuckles.

I have a dodge caravan 96. Motor is 3.3. I have a transmission leak. On the driver side of the transmission. I replace the seal, but the leak continue through the CV joint.

If it is leaking grease out of the cv joint, you will have to replace the rubber cv boot or eventually, the entire cv axle, if it gets worn because of lost grease and no lubrication.

1993 Dodge Grand Caravan Transmission issue

A broken engine or tranny mount should not cause a front wheel to wobble. If this is happening with a grinding noise I'd expect more of a failing bearing or such. The grinding noise may also be a rotor of the brakes with poor pads. Yes, if a axel, or CV joint, is failing this can make noise too, often times a "clicking" type of noise. Best get the front of the van up on jack stands, remove the tires and inspect all of the front-end components; pay special attention CV joints, rotors and front axel area, loose movement in the axels?
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

How do i change the drivers side transaxle in a 1994 dodge carava

To change the CV axle, you have to remove the lower ball joint, remove the axle nut, remove from hub, (you can pull the strut out far enough to do this), and the axle will pull out. Install in reverse order. Sounds like you were trying to remove the transmission.

Nasty squeaky noise from front axel , worse when reversing

If it's a constant squeal, then bearing is suspected. If it warbles (squeakSQUEAKsqueakSQUEAK), then CV joint. Also check to see if the teenager didn't run over something and bend the wheel or something...;-)

Dodge Caravan, 2001, CV joints have 1/4" longitudinal play/noise

CV Joint Axle Replacement - How to Repair or Replace

Over time the rubber boots of the CV joints can become cracked, torn, or otherwise compromised. Once moisture and dirt get into a CV joint and grease makes its way out, the CV joints days are numbered. Signs of impending failures are a click-click-clicking or metallic crackling noise while turning and accelerating or a clunking upon deceleration. While one can repack, reboot, and rebuild CV axles, it makes more sense for the average do-it-yourselfer to procure replacement units and swap out the old axles. If a boot is torn or missing, it is possible to save the joint if caught early enough, but usually the damage has already been done. Replacing or servicing the entire CV joint axle assembly may be the smarter move since replacing a boot may involve removing an axle, which may also involve removing half or all of the vehicle's brakes and suspension.
