Two possibilities;
The gauge itself is stuck at full (a few sharp whacks with your hand under the instrument panel may free it, if it is), or the float in the tank is stuck at the top.
There's an access panel under the trunk liner, and reaching through it and tapping on the sensor mount with the rubber handle of a screwdriver may free it.
These are the simple and easy things to look for first...of course, it gets harder from here...
Your float sensor could have gone bad, but in some models the sensor is fused which opens the possibility of a simple fuse change.

This problem is caused by only thing, it is a defective fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank. To replace this part requires the fuel tank be removed from the vehicle.
