You fuel gauge has a float inside the fuel deposit tank and if this float has absorbed fuel it will not read the correct level ,either replace the whole unit or take the plastic float off and tie a wine bottle cork to the end of the arm ,make sure its not a french wine bottle cork though ,

SOURCE: why is my gas gage showing a full tank when the

Two possibilities;
The gauge itself is stuck at full (a few sharp whacks with your hand under the instrument panel may free it, if it is), or the float in the tank is stuck at the top.

There's an access panel under the trunk liner, and reaching through it and tapping on the sensor mount with the rubber handle of a screwdriver may free it.

These are the simple and easy things to look for first...of course, it gets harder from here...
Your float sensor could have gone bad, but in some models the sensor is fused which opens the possibility of a simple fuse change.

If the reset does not work, you may have to inspect the float device inside the tank that goes up and down along with the fuel inside the tank. It may not be aligned or needs replacement.

Gas gage isnt right it keeps floating

The Sorento gs tank is under the floor in the back seat. Flip the seat bottom's forward and pull open the Velcro to access the top of the tank. The fuel pump and sender may be accessible from the top, but you might be unlucky and have t remove the tank.

Fuel level sensor in tank bad????

Yes it is all one unit, and yes that is what the problem is. don't use aftermarket parts, use OEM, (Delco Remy) they are much better quality.

When empty fuel gage show full, I put 2 gallons of gas and it show 1/2 full

If your lucky, it's the wire harness from the frame to the gas tank. If your not lucky, it's the sending unit in the gas tank and that's expensive.

Gas gage

It could be the fuel level sending unit is stuck or going out. It's in the gas tank.
