It looks like my 2005 audi a4 2.0t's window regulator cable has come off and wrapped itself around where the window motor and the regulators plastic gears come together. Do I need to buy a new window regulator or am I able to repair the old one. Neither the motor nor the cable seem to be broken, and the plastic gears seem to be fine

You would be better off replacing your regulator. You should be able to purchase one without the motor. It jumped off the track for some reason. Your cable is stretched now (more than likely) and this will cause you further problems down the road. After you replace the regulator, be sure to lubricate the window guides with SILICON WD-40, not regular WD-40. Use it liberally and cycle the window up and down numerous times then let it dry.

SOURCE: AUDI A4 window problem

I would check a junk yard for the actual window regulator, this is a tough piece to replace, but it would be worth it if that is the problem. While you are at that part of the project, you can lube up the window glides with some wesson oil(cooking oil), it'll be a little messy the first few times, but after a while there will be no greasy mess on the edges of the windows and it will glide with no problem.

SOURCE: Oil for 2007 AUDI A4 2.0t Quatro

The best balance of price, quality, availability that I have found is Mobil1 synthetic - it's on Audi's approved oils list. With the 2.0T engine, you absolutely want to use synthetic (the Audi turbo fours are known for oil sludge issues), and you want to do a SeaFoam treatment every 15k miles or so - that combination will keep your engine in great running shape.

SOURCE: oil pressure warning light on my audi a4 2005

The car has entered into fail safe mode. It wil not allow the engine to rev high but allows you only to get to a mechanic or to get some oil into the engine. What's the level like? Is there any trace of leakeage?

97 Accord power window. Driver side window not moving.

I would check the switch. I had a 97 Accord LX coupe for 20 years and replaced the driver window regulator several times (had been hit on that side so I dont think things lined up right, wearing out the regulator). Every time the regulator messed up it was because the cable that attaches to the window would break at a plastic piece. The window would almost always fall into the door. Once the cable was loose and got wrapped around something but the window still fell down some. Regulator would make a horrible grinding noise as the cable got tangled. So if your window worked fine one day and nothing the next, I would start with the switch. It's possible the motor died, but that never happened to me, even with cheap aftermarket units. Could also be a broken wire. Might need to take door panel off and test for power at the plug for the regulator. If power- replace regulator. If no power- keep working back to the switch. I replaced the power mirror control with a used one from ebay, so it's possible to find an oem switch.

Left rear windows down due hot weather.came back to find my Nissan Primera would not close windows or allow pasgr window to operate.although drivers window works

My guess is that you have more than one fault. Check fuses and relays first. Remove the door inner lining panel and plastic drip shield membrane (double sided carpet tape is a neat way of sticking this back when reinstalling) You need to check that the regulator cable has not snapped and that cable has not wrapped itself around the motor drum; opening a window takes less effort than closing, so failures occur most often when closing. If cables are intact you need to check that voltage is reaching motors, that there is electrical continuity and that there is a good earth connection.

Window on f350 passenger side wont go up or down replaced motor still doesnt work

Hi donna , can you hear the motor running ,or no ? The window regulator is cables an plastic pulley's The cables fray an wrap around the inside ! You can test for voltage at the motor with a volt meter . That's better then guessing an spending money you don't have ! Hook black voltmeter led to a good ground , metal on the body . Take red led an touch to the wires at the motor one at a time while pushing the window switch ! If there is voltage an window is not working it's the regulator ! If there is no voltage go to the switch an check both sides ! Regulator or the switch is bad !

The passenger door power window won' t go up or down . Makes a brief noise but wont move any more. 2 door coupe

The cable in the window mechanism (regulator) has broken and wrapped up around the gear on the motor. You will need to replace the regulator/motor assembly.

Drivers side window wont go up or down thier is no noise coming from the motor what do you think the problem could be?

There is a real good chance the cable driven window regulator has failed(common problem) thank Chrys. if the cable hasn't wrapped itself into a knot and ruined the drive gear on the motor a new regulator is about 170.00.Good Luck.

The driver's side window is stuck in the down position. The window motor runs, but it sounds like gears are all stripped out. Any suggestions for repair

yeah. unfortunately you will need to remove the door panel and take a look inside the door itself. i'd be willing to be the power window regulator is at fault here and the cable has come off which is holding the window to the bottom. If you remove the regulator then you will need to hold the window up in place with some tape wrapped around the top of the door, or suction cups. one the new regulator is installed then you will need to lower the window to the level of the regulator to install bolts. THESE BOLTS ONLY NEED TO BE SNUG AND NOT TIGHT!!!!! good luck

My passenger window on my 2002 Honda Accord stopped working at first I thought it was just off track because it would make a weird tapping kind of noise when I tried to use the power window button to get...

hi, it sounds like you are hearing the window motor working to turn a broken window regulator. the window regulator on your vehicle is a wire guided wheel moving two track guides up and down, affixed to the window itself. the center of the unit contains wire wrapped around a plastic roller, the most common problem is, the plastic is worn out by the metal wire and it cracks, breaks, and the wires come loose causing the window to fall. you will need to have your window regulator replaced. it's not hard for the mechanically inclined to tackle this job, but if you are not, do not attempt this repair, take it to a shop. one thing i want to tell you, from my experience as a automotive technician, i find that the aftermarket window parts(regulator, switch, motor, etc.) are inferior to factory parts from a dealer. i would recommend replacing the regulator with only factory honda parts, but you don't have to take to honda dealer to do the work.

2000 oldsmobile alero

GM cars have a window regulator that is made of a cable and plastic gears. They wear out and windows quit working. The new unit comes with regulator and new motor. This is a common problem on gm cars. These regulators are around $250 each. I would search junk yards, or look on ebay they sell aftermarket for around $80.00

Alero power window cable has come off

Hello,
Unfortunately there is no routing diagram. This is only sold as a complete unit (the window regulator) and is not serviced. Usually when the cable becomes dislodged it is because part of the cable plastic sheathing has cracked.

Rear window on driver's side slides down

I've had this problem and I believe its a common problem with S types. There is a white plastic slider that wraps around a metal strut and moves up and down as the window opens and closes. The problem is that the plastic slider breaks if the car door is slammed when the window is half way down, When this occurs the slider breaks free and the wire that pulls it up and down wraps itself around the motor and jamms everything up. The fix is to replace the window regulator as a complete unit. This fairly straight forward and worth the effort as you most likely will be replacing the other regulators if you keep the car for a while. Buy the regulator either from Jag dealer or OEM part which is approx 1/2 the cost (I found mine on ebay!). Make sure your get the correct unit, left, right, front and rear are different. Take off the door panel, its all clips except you need to unscrew the two scews under the rubber insert in the door pocket first. After you have removed the panel remove the black plastic cover as well. You need to detach the glass window from the regulator, This is done by punching out the brass insert in the middle of the plastic plug that is pushed through a hole in the glass. Be careful, if you hit it too hard you can break the glass, I ended up drilling it out as this was easier. Once you have the plastic plug out the glass is detached and you can remove the regulator. This is just a few screws, the only tricky part is to get the angle right to pull it out the door frame. Installation of the regulator is just the reverse. Good luck.
