I am trying to do the exact same repair and am having a problem with the same bolts (one at about 2:00 and the other at about 11:00). Is this possible with wobble extensions and swivels? Also wondering, will the starter have to come off as well? ANy help would be very appreciated (I am about to put it all back together and take it in to be done....)

Do you have a manual?

It is probably just about as easy to remove the trans and engine as a unit as it is to get to the top bolts in 99% of the vehicles I have worked on. You could tur a hole n the floor ... but the customer may not smile on that ... and that is not a simple thing to do either.

Thanks for the 4 thumbs up ... I too have tried to use a mirror as David Davemo suggests ... I also have a collection of never to be used again "bent" end wrenches ... One car I worked on ... I droped the drive shaft then unbolted the transmission from the bell housing and removed it ...it was a tiny bit better, not necessarily worth the extra effort ...it is a tough job with the right tools. BTW ... I hope never to do another.

Lots of vehicles have the same situation and there is a special tool made to reach the top bolt(s) on each model. On some vehicles you can cut a hole in the fender well or remove the rubber splash guard in order to see & reach the bolt(s). I have placed a mirror above the bellhousing so I could see to reach the bolt (s) from below. It's usually a pain in the @ss and lots of mechanice don't replace the top bolt when they reinstall the transmission.

Next time you pick up the car on jack stands in over their heads, and beautiful to see those screws and the bottom is the Take and you will not even have to be cut, drilled, bent to produce the special keys and the like, believe me I have the BMW mechanic than you!

What's the answer?? It wrote to someone who does not know a car repair! Next time you ask me, I do it out of the gearbox and back 1h30-45min.

Dexron III ATF is what BMW called for in the power steering pump in these models. However, GM no longer makes a type-III ATF!

Nice thing about GM Dexron specifications is that any higher numbered fluid meets the requirements of previous, lower numbered fluids. What does this mean? Siphon out as much as the old junk as you can. Refill with Dexron III and if you cannot find that? A common on the shelf *upgraded* synthetic fluid can be found in Dexron VI that more than adequately surpasses previous Dex-III specifications. So use with confidence! Pour and forget...

This is a mileage comtrolled light and the oxagen sensers and other sensers are to be checked and or replaced with new ones. The old sensers are likly to be OK but for best performance they should be changed anyway as failure causes all kinds a mixture problems that if left unrepaired can kill the car nd or cuse very expensive emission control repairs that can be avoided.
