well ,one thing is puzzling me is why it only does it after driving for a while and not straight away , if it was the belt or pulley it would do it straight away ? also it doesn't make it any louder if i accelerate if anything it goes lower, also if i stop the car , when i turn it back on it takes about 5 min for noise to come back going up gradually in volume , now i was reading some forums and there was talk on the oil valve separator , now i don t know where thats located , or the spaceship air intake or outlet , it all started with me changing the pipes at the back but iv doublechecked them and they are in perfect order.

Rubber pipe , its at the back under the pollen filter , comes as a double pipe one fat one thin , fat one is for air flow , thin one water , both for cooling the engine. The fat one was actually split , causing my engine to idle bad , so i replaced the part , engine idle is fine but now i gt that noise , and i get air suction when i take oil dipstick out while engine is running , so i am guessing something is not right but dk what

Take the car to mechanic they will locate it fast and usualy free

wow that is a scarry sound

could be a couple of things first get some soap and dribble some on the belts if noise stops then there you go you need belts tightened ore replaced

if it doesnt stop screaming then get out the hose using water spray different parts of the engine untill noise stops but it could be as simple as a bad pulley or a bad tensioner bearing

try the soap then try water if both fail take to a mechanic soon

now when you say the pipes at the back do you mean exhaust or are they an aluminum wraped pipes that flex ??

if it is a flex pipe on the rear of the motor it might be expanding and opening a hole in the pipe allowing the exhaust to escape or it could be a turbo bearing also

1998 CIVIC high pitch noise when backing up

Hi there. When reverse is engaged and drive taken-up, the engine torques in a new direction and if you look under the bonnet of your Honda you will see many vacuum pipes and hoses. My bet is that one of these has an air leak which when reversing opens-up and gives you that sound you're hearing. So first thing to do is undertake a detailed check of each and every one of those vacuum hoses - you should be looking for cracking or any dislodgement. Hope this helps, Scottech
