2007 Suzuki XL-7 Logo

When we tried to start our 2007 Suzuki XL-7 this morning, we heard a loud crack (like an electrical spark). Now when you turn on the key. all lights, radio, etc. work fine. Turning the key to start the engine results in a single click from under the hood but the starter does not turn. Battery connections are good and battery is fine (all other electrical systems work fine and do not drag down when trying to start the car as would happen with a weak battery or bad battery connection). Is there a fusible link that goes to the starter only? Or, could this be a bad connection to the starter or a starter suddenly gone bad?

After further troubleshooting we determined that the battery was not in fact fully functional. It had sufficient juice to run all electrical systems but was too weak for the system to even engage the starter solenoid. The odd thing is that attempting to start the car did not dim the interior lights nor drag down the other electrical devices as is usually the case with a weak battery. Anyway, problem solved.

Check the start solenoid, starter side, when you turn the key... The battery side will always be hot, the starter side should be hot when you turn the key.

That is of course always a possibility though the lights should have been somewhat dimmed during all of this. In the day light it would be difficult to determine.

Anyway, I am glad you have identified and repaired the trouble.

Turn the ignition on and nothing and the key wont come out! but the ciggarrette lighter has power

WD-40 the key hole and try tapping the keyhole lightly to get it lose. Sounds like it is just jammed. Don't be to forceful. Just because you can turn on lights or anything like that doesn't mean your battery has enough battery to start up. So try to jump it if it doesn't work after that.

Stalled engine on my 2007 Suzuki XL-7

Maybe the accelerator needs to be reset. My friend had a Nissan Murano which had similar symptoms. His friend from Nissan did a combination of key-starts to reset the computer.
