2000 audi a4 2.8L engine. How do I remove the crankshaft Timing Belt gear? I need to replace the crankshaft seal. Do I need to somehow remove the 12 point 24mm from the end of the crankshaft before removing the gear? If so, and I have the crankshaft locking pin in place, is the thread left or right hand?

Hi Counchcharles
Your service displays have to be reset with the correct electronic equipment....When you chage the engine oil the computer management system will have to be told...thats the job of the scanner....go to a service centre and have them cancel it for you.
The over heating problem is nothing to do with that though.....Check to see if you have any leakage....open the pressure cap only when the engine is cold....best is first thing before start up in the morning....check to see if you need topping up....if you do, it'll mean you have a leakage....Check the entire radiator and hoses where they go from the rad into the engine and ventilation system for stains from the coolant....If you can't find any look at the thermostat....If you remove it, replace with anew unit, do not dis-guard it also check the pressure cap and if needs be replace....Good luck

HI,AT WHAT SPEED DID THIS HAPPEN,IF AT IDLE OR VERY LOW SPEED,HAVE A NEW BELT FITTED IF IT RUNS NORMALLY YOU ARE LUCKY,IF IT RUN ROUGH WITH BAD MISFIRE OR NOT STARTING AT ALL THE VALVES ARE BENT,PLEASE LET ME KNOW,ANDY.
SOURCE: broken timing belt. engine turns over and put a wrench on cam shafts and they turn over pretty good
have someone perform a leak down test on each cylinder. This will tell you if you possibly bent a valve on any of the cylinders. If you did you need to remove the cyl. head to have it looked at. If the leak down test is good on all cylinders you should be good with just replacing the timing belt and tensioner. The likely hood that you didn't bend a valve is slim since that motor is an interference motor.
