Sometime a used trany needs to be driven, its been sitting, the valve body drys up and sometimes things stick, with a used trany you should always replace the oil and filter before running, after driving for a few days shifting should get smoother, good luck.

It's possible, especially if the used trans sat unused for a while. When you change the filter, make sure that the trans has fresh, proper fluid.

96 Saturn sl2 shift hard been told auto trans control solonoid only does it for 1st and 2nd can some one tell me what other cars have alike part can not find it online

Transmission shop is your only answer, parts are only required to be available for 10 years from the production date. Since that company also folded you are out of luck

90 to 105 comression on my 95 saturn timing chain broke will it run if i put a new chain in

I'm 99% positive that compression should be more than 200psi. If the chain broke it bent valves. A used motor would be your better option. The 1.9 SOHC is a cheap and common engine. The 1.9 DOHC will be considerably more expensive.

If you have a manual transmission the engine and trans will need to be pulled together and separated out of the car. If you have an automatic transmission the engine can be removed without pulling the transmission.

Low compression in cyl #3

that means your rings, valves, or head gasket are going bad beyond the normal aging of all the cylinders. the number 3 was the first to go on my 91 DOHC too. the car is nearly 20, and that stuff happens with age and use. I would look around for a low mileage DOHC Saturn engine from a 94 SC2 or SL2. the engine is so old that to fix it you will have to rebuild it which will cost far more than the 500 dollars the whole car is worth. the same engine was in them from 92-94, possibly even a 95. make darn sure you find a DOHC engine and not the SOHC, they look almost the same but they are not interchangeable unless you change the transmission, the exhaust, all the wheels, and the speedometer.

I have a 95 sl2 that is leaking oil out the front crank seal and is registering no oil pressure

I think you should call around to local scrap yards and look on your local craiglist for a DOHC saturn engine with much lower mileage. Perhaps even a used engine vendor on ebay could be local to you. In any event I think before you undertake a major engine repair on a 15 year old engine it might make sense to put another engine in there. I do not know if a 95 DOHC is the same as a 99 DOHC but no doubt there are a few years which are interchangeable.

WANT TO PUT A 1996 LS -1 SATURN, MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND MOTOR INTO A 1995 LS-2 SATURN BODY AND CHASSIS. WILL I HAVE TO CHANGE THE COMPUTER? DOES THE DESIGN CHANGE FROM 95 TO 96 EVEN MAKE IT POSSIBLE...

There isn't much difference between them. The SL series didn't change between 95 and 96 except for the ecm is OBD2 on the 96. Are both cars stick shift? The difference in the SL1 and the SL2 are the cams. 1 for sohc and 2 for dohc. So what you are asking is can I take out my dohc motor and install a sohc motor right?

My saturn was running fine. Then it would shift very hard

well if it shifts very hard into every gear that means the pressure control solenoid in the trans went bad and it causing the trans to go to max line pressure thats why it shifts so hard,,,it does that so you can still drive it even thou it broken, anyhow the PC solenoid is under the trans pan which is on the TOP of the trans under the battery,,,,not too hard a job to do, the parts are about $100 labor might be about $200,,,easy fix,,could be alot more,,,and if you dont fix it ,it will break other stuff in the trans and cost alot more,,,

1995 saturn sl2 when putting it into drive it slames real hard then it is slow going till the rpms get up then its fine any thoughts?

this might be a dumb quest. have you checked the trans fluid ? if so you might need a torque converter in a automatic . or clutch in manual trans.

1999 Saturn SL2 shifting problems

I also have a 1999 sl2 saturn . I was having about the same problem but mine also did not want to go into reverse somtimes as well . Ichanged my fluid and filter and put in a good trans conditioner and just about all my trouble went away. The trans filter is just like a oil filter it just screws on the outside of the transmission . It is located down under the air filter housing, and the fluid plug is right on the bottom of the trans.
