The tapping you hear is your engine beginning to self destruct. Do not drive this vehicle until you change the oil. Then find out how the fuel is getting into the oil. On some old American cars this could happen when the fuel pump diaphragm failed. The fuel is getting into the oil pan and it has to be stopped. It will at least destroy the engine. I was riding in a car years ago that had this problem. The oil pan literally blew up. Take no chances with this one. If you must drive it to get it fixed change the oil first or have it towed.

IF OIL SENDING UNIT IS BAD COULD IT CAUSE THE MOTOR TO TAP AFTER RUNNING ABOUT 15 MINS.
I seriously doubt it.
But if the oil pump or bearings are worn out, you could loose oil pressure once the engine warms up.

It sounds like you have a valve tapping because when it warms up the valve expands from warming up so it will get quieter.

When u start the car it got a tapping noise and the oil pours out but u can drive it when u push the gas the noise gets louder
dont drive it or youll lock up the motor. the tapping noise means your not getting oil to the motor. you need to see where the oil is leaking from

The oil light goes on when I break...could it be the oil pump?
some cars have a oil level sensor (in the oil pan) these can go bad or the oil pressure sensor can go bad. DOES YOUR MOTOR MAKE A TAPPING OR KNOCKING SOUND AT A IDLE WHEN WARM ? IF SO . NOT GOOD . IN MOST CASES IT NOT WORTH FIXING DO TO COSTS.

sometimes when warming up motor the oil doesnt reach up there right away so eventually oil reaches causing clatter to stop a lot of vehicles do it even new ones just make sure you have the proper weight of oil in the motor if car has high mileage..this will help with noise

Knock or tapping at idle
Firstly, check your engine oil level. If the level is low, the rocker arms in the cylinder heads can tap tap tap... This may be why you're getting an engine light. Check the oil pressure gauge for a reading. If the oil pressure and level is ok, you can run an oil cleaning agent thru your motor with the oil and then do an oil change. Sometimes you can quiet a noisy motor that way.
You could also use a high-mile oil in the motor and see how that works. You can also add an oil additive to help quiet older motors..
