The hole is there to let you know that the water pump is defective, you need a new water pump, normal this hole is filled with wax, when the pump over heats due to the bearings wearing out the wax melts,

Chrysler 2.7l engine are designed that way because the water pump is internal and powered by the timing chain. The hole is to let you know if the pump has failed. I had the same engine different car same problem and my pump was bad

2001 2500 silverado 6.0 where is the weep hole?

It is the water pump, i would buy a new thermostat also, you can buy a water pump that comes with a new stat and housing, that is the best way i think and that is the way i do them.

These water pumps are big looking but are very easy to replace, i will tell you that when they leak it is very, very hard to see the weep hole, the area you say yours is leaking is the pump so sure, this waterpumps leak at the mating gasket where the pump meets the block or weep hole, any way it is the waterpump.

you will see the new one , how they put the weep hole it flows through the housing to leak out when bad but hard to see.

hope this is helpful.

The drain on your evaporator core housing is most likely plugged. Condensation on the evaporator core drips down into the plastic housing and drips onto the ground through a hose on the firewall on the
passenger side.

Find the small hose on the firewall in the engine compartment. You should be able to pull off that
hose and see if its stopped up. If the hose is ok, you may need to remove some of the ac ducts
under the dash to get to the evaporator core housing to unclog the drain hole.

I have no doubt that thats the problem.

Radiator fluid leaking - top driver side under the thermostate housing or water pump housing?

1st check to see if the hose to the thermostat housing is tight, if so, then check the thermostat housing to see if anti freeze is leaking from that area, if so replace the gasket, or try tightning down the bolts, but don't over do it with the tightening, if that area is ok, then check to see if antifreeze is leaking from water pump, start vehicle and let run, and observe the pump for any leakage, do not get close to the fan area, most of the time when water pumps go bad , they have a small hole in the bottom of the pump, this is called a weep hole, this is a true sign that the bearing and seal in the pump is wearing out, hope that this information has helped.

Antifreeze leak at lower raditor housing? antifreeze dripping down oilpan by dipstick tube and aircondition compressor only when hot.

you may have a water pump that is starting to fail. Look for the water pump that's driven by the fan belt. look at the housing of the water pump there is a relief hole that they drill in the casting and when the pump begins to fail it will drip out this hole. If that's where your leak is, it's time to change the pump.

Leaking coolant

I had the same problem and could not exactly pin point the leak until I took a real close look at the pump when everything was dry. I could see that the small weep hole was leaking which meant that the pump had to be replaced.
ruling out that there is a crack in the pump itself, it is more than likely to be a hose or its connection to the pump, the pump seal to the engine block or the weep hole on the bottom of the pump housing.

If you are to change out the pump yourself, you need remove several parts off the front of the engine so if you are not too confident, I would suggest paying someone to do the job.

Hope this helps
