Stiff steering wheel upon start up

I have a 95 Pontiac Sunfire. Occasionally (maybe once or twice a year, not seasonal) when I turn the car on the steering wheel is stiff and won't move more than an inch to the left or right. However, it seems once the car warms up (about 10 minutes later), the steering wheel is loose and I am able to steer.

What is the origin of this problem?

Check your serpintine belt for cracks, & dryness. Also if wet the steering will not operate easily neither

Difficult to say... it sounds like a fluid flow probem associated with the power steering pump. Could the pump belt be too loose? This seems a possible cause.

My 2003 pontiac sunfire starts for a few seconds and turns off what could be the problem

A faulty engine oil pressure sensor will do just that. The third wire from it runs the fuel pump upon starting the engine. Once oil pressure is acheived the relay takes over
Replace the oil sensor to fix this problem

Why is my 2001 pontiac sunfire locked. when i say locked i mean evrything is locked liked the steering wheel, and it would not let me turn the key to crank up mycar. please help

Most commonly, The steering wheel is under tension when it was parked creating pressure on the mechanism that locks everything. Try turning the wheel in aternate directions one at a time while depressing brake and turning key, if this does not work get back to me...MK

Front wheel bearings bad

if it gets louder when you turn left then the right front wheel bearing is bad and vice versa it gets louder when the weight shifts to that wheel

2003 pontiac sunfire, key in ignition nothing. tried jumping, nothing. Left for help, came back car started right up 4 or 5 times, Now nothing. Why? ty, Sue

Sounds like a short in the ignition switch. Next time it does it, try shaking and turning the steering wheel while you're turning the key to start. If this doesn't work, try cycling the switch on and off several times. Chances are, this is your problem.
