If te check engine light is on the cruise wont work it just flashes if you erase check engine light and cruise still flashes hit cruise button twice it will go out but if engine kicks the check engine light it will flash again you have to fix what ever it is that kicks check engine light or you just deal with it

SOURCE: 2004 subaru forester, 99,000 miles. Check engine

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the great suggestion . I'll have Autozone read the codes on Monday. Thanks again!"

SOURCE: My 2004 Subaru Forester has a cruise control

It might be a malfunction of the switch combination unit as according to your description it could be one of the internal contacts staying on all the times and this is why you have to cut the power off to cancel it. Best solution is to bring it to your local dealership or a very good electrician.
Hope it works for you and let us know what is the outcome.
Cheers.

SOURCE: My Subaru Forester engine light and cruise control

could be transmission fault, connect the 2 loose black plugs together under the drivers side dash, turn on ignition, no start, the ecl will flash the code, slow flashes are 10's and fast ones are 1's. codes can be got from bba-reman.com

SOURCE: I have a 2005 Subaru Forester. Check engine light

Hi

Have the EGR valve checked on the car, also you can remove this yourself and try cleaning it with carb cleaner. they cost about £180 or $280 approx. they do normally trigger these lights.

Hope this helps.
Regards

Dan

p.s have the air mass sensor checked also.

The engine light is on steady and the cruise light is flashing on my MY07 subaru forester XT. The manual says to take it to a dealer. Any ideas?

go to a major auto parts store and ask them to read out the trouble code that is waiting in the cars computer memory. They will do it for free.

Hey guys looking at buying an suburu forester 05-06 xt but when i took it for a test drive the engine light was on the owner said its on because the cruise control doesn't work is this true and how much...

This is a guess............. A nonfunctioning cruise control probably would not cause the check engine light to come on , however what ever is causing the check engine light to come on could be stoping the cruise control from working. Is the car a good deal ? Check engine light could be just about anything , even a loose gas cap. What you need to do is use the known problems to get the price down a bit , and then take the vehicle to a mechanic to scan for error codes. The codes tell him which part to replace. More often then not , the repairs are not too expensive.
