Serpentine Ac Bypass belt

That is not the way to fix it. You remove the AC Pump and install a bypass pulley. It keeps the same belt, route and tension.

Can I bypass the AC compressor pulley with a shorter belt?

Yes, this is possible. However, unless it was the AC compressor clutch and pulley which failed, bypassing the AC pulley is unnecessary. Simply disconnect the wire to the AC compressor clutch and that should do the trick.

You disconnect everything and you fit a Bypass Pulley. This enables you to use the same size belt and it keeps the serpentine belt routing the same.

the ac is an idler pulley in the system so leaving it out will require a total change of how the belt is fitted and not just needing a shorter belt
remember that the ac pulley bearing can be replaced if faulty and if the ac compressor has failed disconnect the ac clutch wire and there is no need to worry about belts

your best bet is to replace the a/c with a bypass pulley ,and a good cheap place to find one is the local junk yard

This was found at rockauto.com. this will take the place of the AC compressor and allow the use of the original serpentine belt.

There are two companies that I've heard of that make a bypass pulley. One is Dorman the other I can';t remember. Both require that the compressor be removed and the pulley replaces it so you can run the same belt and configuration. You'd need to check with your local parts house to see if they make one for your engine. Most factory systems don't allow for a bypass... the belt usually ends up hitting something and not working.

1)Go to the parts store and ask for a belt for a NON-ac stratus. or 2) "Dorman" may sell an A/C compressor bypass pulley.

the models without AC use a AC delete pulley, so there is only one belt size, the pulley goes where the compressor is in your with AC car, contact Ford for the AC delete pulley
