Should my a/c pulley turn when car and belt are off? if yes then it has seized up, can i replace just the pulley or do i have to change the whole compressor? can i bypass the a/c pulley with a smaller belt and if so is that a very good idea?
The defrosters run with the ac compressor running whenever its 49 degrees and higher. it does that to get rid of humidity faster. the pulley works off the ac clutch behind the pulley so you have a locked up clutch. find a belt to fit by bypassing the ac compressor will do if you like

Anything is possible so look carefully at the configuration of the belt routing. Draw a scketch of all pullys and the direction of the belt path. Mark the location of the belt tensioner with the belt installed. I get back to this part later. Now take a peice of string and wrap it around the pullys with the belt off. Mark the beginning and the end were the string matches up. Take it off and measure it in millimeters. All belts are sold in millimeter lengths. Now that you had previous marked the location of the tensioner, look where the tensioner sits with the belt off. It is at a different postion. You need to measure in millimeters the difference and minus that from you string measurement. Once that is accomplished you will know how long the belt will be needed for yours with out using the AC compressor
