No , shft kits have to be install into the 'guts' of the transmission .If you pull the transmission out ,you can take to a Qualified rebuiler to install a shift kit
The 1-2 /3-4 shift solenoid is located at the back of the valve body in the transmission pan. You don't have to drop the valve body, just the transmission pan and the solenoid is held on by a simple clip. Once the solenoid is accessible, disconnect the wire leads and undo the clip and the shift solenoid slides out from the valve body.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya, Note that most of the time when there is a solenoid failure, it's caused by a faulty wire lead from the ECM to the transmission. The wire harness runs from the ECM on the passenger side fender to the passenger side of the transmission by the Catalytic Converter. Inspect the wire connection on the transmission first before trying to replace the solenoid to save you time and money.

It is NOT the transmission pan gasket or bolts ?
You have 2 trany line coolers, 1 fill tube, and the tailshaft seal, all could be culprits.
I would say clean the botton of the trany pan off completely, and see if it leaks WITHOUT the truck running.
Then start the truck and see if it leaks, if not, then put it in drive, and see if it is leaking.

First, carefully disconnect the cable end from the shift arm on the transmission (pry gently with a screw driver between the arm and the cable), then take out the staple looking thing from the cable. Then squeeze the tabs on the side of the cable and slide it towards the rear of the vehicle. Take out the two bolts that hold the bracket on.
there should be a tag on the tranny that should tell u if u look it up in a repair book buy chlitons or haynes or a auto part store may help u buy looking up a filter kit for it it should show u a picture of the pan gasket and u can compare to the pan on your truck
sounds like a sticking valvebody issue , try a service flush with preformance additive from BG ...I would also drop pan inspect for any debris and change filter and replace fluids, test run... please rate my help...
